Isn't Jordi a finalist for the Suns' opening?

Crazy to me that the Suns are so high on Doc and Vogel. I don't know Young well enough to comment, but man what a wasted opportunity if that's who they go with.

My top picks are Monty and Atkinson

Monty good at developing players, Atkinson did a fine job with Nets getting into playoffs pre-KD/Kyrie - learning under Kerr is definitely a plus

According to Andrea Tosi of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Scariolo is among the three finalists to succeed Nick Nurse at the Toronto Raptors, and is singled out as even more likely than Canadian Steve Nash , another strong candidate...
Currently his team, Virtus Bologna, is playing in the semifinals of the Lega Basket Serie A in Italy , with a 1-0 lead over Derthona Basket.

Three finalists. Fernandez, Scariolo and… Nash?

They're not going to make Sergio fly here to be runner up.

I know Boston has fired Mazulla, but they probably should. He had a nice run letting this talented team do its own thing and it backfired.

Monty Williams would help Boston and I think he'd be perfect there.

We sign Fernandez, and Sergio becomes his assistant. They create an all international Staff, and win the championship next year.

I think it would have to be the opposite. Sergio is head coach and Fernandez comes over as lead assistant with an understanding that after a few years Sergio retires and Jordi steps in. There is no chance that Sergio would come to be an assistant again I don’t think and under a first time head coach on top of that.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

How often do teams let assistants leave for lateral positions? I believe Jordi is already the lead assistant in Sacramento.

I think he is a step above, listed as an "associate head coach." I think it is not often that a non-head coach moves to a lateral position but you look at Nate Bjorkgren and he lost his head coach role and became an assistant again.

Maybe Jordi treats this differently because he has worked with Scar before with the Spanish NT. Maybe Scar is a legend and a big mentor and you go to Toronto because the respect level is so high. Or, maybe as Zeno said there is a pathway to being a future head coach. I mentioned it before, but Mike Brown is like early 50s and Scar is 62 - so how long does Jordi want to wait?

You wait too long you end up like Sam Cassell - career assistant to Doc Rivers.

Someone on this board posted a vid like a year ago of Steve Nash doing a tik tok dance with his daughter...Combine that with him not coming to Toronto as a player when he had the chance (even though it worked in our favor). I would have to say thanks for interviewing Steve, but we are taking it in another direction.

I was looking at it more from the Kings’ perspective. It’s generally frowned upon to block a promotion but if a coach under contract is leaving for a similar position elsewhere there might need to be compensation involved.

Good share and while these old talking heads can prattle on at times, the point about getting Board sign-off on a big contract could be one worth thinking about.

Nurse was worth $8m, and maybe the Board prefers the Raps, who in all likelihood will not be contenders, to have a cheap head coach. It could explain the lessor level candidates we are interviewing. The cost would be so much lower for Jordi than Monty Williams who has 3 years and $20m left on his deal. Scarliolo may need a buyout on his deal which may also be an issue.

I have doubts that the money is a serious concern in this but I believe Nurse’s salary will most likely be offset against his new Philly salary(I think that is pretty standard) so perhaps Nick getting another job makes paying more for a new coach less of a concern than it was, if it was.
