I like it. He fits a huge need, and he was the BPA.

Okay. So we know who you would have traded up to get.
Who would you have drafted at 13 for the Raptors?
I assumed Coulibaly would be there. If Fred leaves, you take a guard, that was my position. Again, I like Dick as a player, its not that I think he's trash or somebody was way better at that spot.
still didn't answer the question.
name the available player you would've taken at 13.
I did well before the draft. I stated there are pros and cons to lot of the guards available. It would be a tough choice. That's why I leaned towards Coulibaly as BPA.

It's so he can take 14-30, choose the single best player and the drone on about how we made a massive mistake.
Wait for 3 months and we'll all be hearing about it.

I'm actually NOT one of the posters that selected "Hated It" -- but I did select I Don't Like It.
Doesn't mean I think Dick is trash and some scrub. His "value" is obvious, he's a shooter/floor spacer. He's basically a 6'8 Duncan Robinson, maybe as he adds more ballhandling that will be Huerter and that's not hate, those guys are "valuable" players to their teams because yes it's just a fact now that everyone needs shooting...and that's what this FO did, drafted for "need" which is more my gripe with the pick - a true not hating the playa lol but the game/FO. They made that decision and I just don't like their vision (or lack thereof) for the team as it seems they're constructed much of it on public opinion, not any real strategy of their own and they're missing golden opportunities for the sake of playing it safe and I can't get with that.
The hoard of apologists will blab about yesteryear and the same slow build up expecting lightening to strike twice because they seen the world's biggest fluke of a trade in Kawhi, now blindly believe there's some grand plan although literally the FO is changing their answers of what they're after by the press conference (Vision 6'9 abandoned, immediately brought in two 7 footers the very next year, we're drafting a Raptors type guy that defend, oh no ooops, we got some shooting bc we don't wanna admit OKC pulled the trigger on a trade we wouldn't do for the actual player we wanted: Cason Wallace). They're just floating whereever the wind takes them and basically now are beholden to mid-players like Fred & Pascal who will produce mid results for the foreseeable future.
What they're doing is literally a giant waste of time, so I won't be tuning much until there's a MAJOR change (period) whether that's the players or the FO. The outcome is just way too predictable over the next 3-4 years IF they do just "run it back" with Gradey & some other minor pieces around the fringes as is very likely the case now -- it will be good REGULAR season record, quick Playoff elimination (rd 1 or 2 - they won't sniff a Conference Finals). They just wanna play it safe and make sure they even make it that far because of course MLSE wants that $, and instead of planning for the future with some short term pain to take more of a gamble on guys like Whitmore or Bufkin to become the 2nd option scorer that is ACTUALLY needed long term (or flipping either of OG or Pascal for players with higher potentials than their own) they continue to squander opportunity for real chance at growth & sacrifice it (yet again) for short term gain just to stay in their comfort zone. I don't play that way in my own life, so it's just a matter of principles that I disagree on so that's why I "don't like it" and stand by it even if works out "ok", I don't want just "ok" in anything lol but ya'll have fun with that.
You said all of this before. And we won a title. You’ll say it all again. Rinse and repeat.
thanks for proving my point...this is how jaded this board is.
They really believe lightening will strike twice because they seen it happen once.
A miracle trade happened once so therefore its bound to happen again is the "logic" the majority of this board is banking on. It's like a person who won the lottery blowing all their money and telling people they can't say sh*t to him because he was right about hitting the lottery before and therefore it will happen again lol good luck with that!

So you'd pick a guard. No idea which one, just a guard. For need.
What if Fred stays? Does picking the best player available become an option again? What if a cheap option like trading for Delon Wright opens up. Still picking a guard for need?

It's always why Bilal is the choice. The rawest prospect that will take the most time to develop. So you can constantly point to the 'potential' of Bilal as the opportunity the Raptors missed out on.

Re: Rate the Dick Pick
Taking a deeper dive into the remaining prospects I actually think Dick was probably best talent available along with the best fit. I regret my earlier choice of being lukewarm on the pick and I'm quickly warming up to it.
Frankly I think we should have also tried to nab Sasser but it didn't happen.

No, I'm already on record multiple times stating the choice for guard would be difficult. That means I didn't have a preference there before the draft. So your statement is just false.

I don't know why you're all picking on ItsDanger, he answered who he would have taken. Don't let the fact that individual wasn't available throw you off.
I personally would have taken Wembanyama, but I'm just built different.

Whitmore or Bufkin (unfortunately for him though, he likely won't get the PT with all the guards there) of who was available.
I also would've been happy if they just paid the minor damn price to move up and get the guy they wanted; Cason Wallace. Coulibaly is who I wanted going in but we obviously never really had a chance.

Re: Rate the Dick Pick
My draft board was Cason, Bufkin, Coulibaly - but that's in part because I thought Dick would be gone. I still can't wrap my head around whether or not Bilal will be good.
But I loved the pick. There is something very satisfying about watching great shooters shoot, so I'm hoping his game will translate to the NBA. I've been hard against drafting for need, but I could see how having guys like Dick can help the development of Scottie, Banton, Precious, by giving them more space to operate.

He's going to watch a few months of the season first and then pick the best guy out of Hawkins, Bufkin, George, JHS, Whitehead, Sasser, Nick Smith, Brice. That will be his guy. He will let us know in 2024.
