Feschuk's goofy ass is still a thing? This guy's shtick was played out two decades ago.

Toronto has always has the worst writers.. and he tops the list... puck head who knew nothing about basketball spouting his bs...

Steve Simmons was the worst. He openly hoped for the failure of the franchise in its early days.

All of them from back then. For 25 years or so, i will not give any of these rat “journalists” my attention.

Feschuk is the top of my nope list.

I been a raps fan since i was 10 (2006), can you explain what Doug Smith did w VC

Not an exaggeration:

A grown man started a personal feud w/ a 23 yr old because the 23 year said no when the grown man insisted that the 23 year old had to let him fly to north carolina, go to vinces childhood home, have thanksgiving diner with his family AND SLEEP IN HIS HOUSE!

Dude wanted to tape it for tv, and I paste a photo of it on the front of the papers.

He thought he could literally bully vc into letting him pretend to be his daddy at their biggest annual family tradition/get together.

After this, 2 years of weekly hit pieces.

But its the press scrums that did the most damage.

Smith would demonstratively badger vince. It was childish snd toxic.

Example:

Vc once scored 40+ three games in a row. Media narrative was could he tie jordans record of 4 in a row.

He didnt.

Every press scum for WEEKS afterwards; smith would grit his teeth, leer in vinces face, like he was squaring up, and would ask the same toxic question REPEATEDLY; “jordan once scored 40 4x’s in a row. Dont you feel like you let the fans and city down.

Vc would compose himself and give generic answers:

“Its a team game”

“Its all about winning”

Smith repeats same question but grits his teeth slightly more aggressively.

Vince: “were on a six game winning street, what do you want man?”

Smith gets “clever”: “why did mopete make the winning shot? Dont you feel like its your responsibility to take that shot? Dont you feel like you owe the city and fans more?”

vince: “team game, proud of my boy making the shot”.

Smith: “michael jordan once scored 40 4x’s in a row, dont you feel you let the city and fans down?”

The very next scrum smith would ask those exact SAME questions over and over until vince matched the aggressive tone.

He got baited.

The result was vince looking smith in the eyes and saying “what would you write about if i stop dunking”?

He was calling out smith’s passive aggressive jordan comparison verbal attacks.

Next days headine: “vince refuses to ever dunk again. Turns his back on fans”.

Now, during these daily scrums, vc is sitting st his locker with 10+ white guys hovering over him, the camera is insulating smith, the editors are cropping the convo to insulate smith. The security, travel agents, media heads, the gm, the president, the coach; everyone passively left vc out to dry.

Vc probably had that exact same convo for two weeks straight.

The nbapa lowkey blacklisted us for over a decade because of this.

The vets taught the rookies that we were just another wasp trap and couldnt be trusted.

They thought we were alabama north.

Eff doug smith, he railroaded vince because vince wouldnt let smith pretend to be his daddy in his moms house on national television.

Hard to believe the rest of the players took issue with this. :(

I don’t want to call BS, but either you’re exaggerating or you need to get outside more often if you can quote headlines and exact questions from boring post-game interviews that took place ~20 years ago.

I had a critical illness as a child. There were only 30 channels back then and most aired the same 4 - 6 hour original content on a loop outside of prime time.

Fun thing about spending a year in bed. You dont really sleep after awhile. You just sort of law there half awake lol.

Also every kid in the 90s remembers vince refusing to dunk in game for like half a season.

We can all also quote entire episodes of the simpsons and fresh prince that we havent watched in a decade.

No not the media, the culture that insulated the media.

The nba player’s cultural black listed us, not literally the pa. There was no physical memo.

Maybe try reading slower next time.

NY media puts Toronto to shame, they really go after the players. And quite honestly, hockey players get torn apart WAY worse than the players on the Raps. Has nothing to do with your perceived culture around the media. Get real.

Saying we lost FVV for “nothing” is just not accurate. Is trading FVV just to say we “got something” but being unable to sign Shroder or McDaniels better for us?

I dont understand this

If we trade Fred at the deadline for a player on a contract we would have that player plus the MLE and BAE still which would be used to sign Schroder and McD

Nope. We would’ve been over the thresholds and wouldn’t have the eligibility to have thise contracts to sign.

Not necessarily true. Look at the current cap sheet. We would have had the BAE regardless and assuming we trade Fred without trading for Poeltl essentially you just replace Poeltl’s amount. And we could have traded Fred for other expiring contracts or rerouted longer term contracts to a third team. Even if we still do the Poeltl trade and trade Fred for salary this year we’d have flexibility to use the exceptions if we waive Thad and move Otto Porter Jr or Flynn.

Realistically we could have traded Fred to the Clippers, rerouted Luke Kennard to Memphis and get back Bj Boston, John Wall, Danny Green, 3 seconds from Memphis and a first from the Clippers. This is almost the exact same trade that was done except the Clippers get a much better player than Eric Gordon and give ip BJ Boston and a first. The idea that trading Fred means we couldn’t have used our exceptions is revisionist history.

Sorry to hear about your illness. I hope that’s behind you.

I have tried to find anything at all to suggest any animosity between Carter and Smith and not only is there none, there’s much evidence to suggest the opposite. As someone pointed out, there’s the forward in Smith’s book; Smith wrote a book about Carter; they have had multiple positive interactions (interviews) since; the Raptors could have easily revoked Smith’s press pass to cover the team if it were true that he was harassing their star player that they would have (and did) do anything he wanted. A few years ago in fact the team gave Smith a tribute when he had health concerns that took him off the beat.
You can find info on Cito Gaston’s feud with Steve Simmons and others but there’s nothing on Carter and Smith? I don’t buy that.

And I don’t buy that Carter is such a great guy whose maturity snuffed this all out. Speaking of quoting lines, from The Usual Suspects, “Don’t sell me the hooker with the heart of gold.”
Carter demonstrated a lot of immaturity in his time here.

I believe you picked up on some possible tensions between them but I don’t have any reason to believe that it was anywhere close to being as tense as you interpreted it to be.

Pretending to not understand simple concepts and taking things literal in an effort to misrepresent what the other person said, isnt smart. Its the opposite.

Or try reading slower.

What if he loses a player in free agency but the team gets better in spite of it? Do you still fire him? Just asking.

Not true. We could have traded him to Houston for a FRP for example. Or for a prospect and an expiring.

Was Houston offering a first round pick?

Was anyone offering a prospect?

Thats a question we dont have an answer to.

So why say we could have done that when you have no clue whether we could? Why he outraged over something you have no clue was even a possibility?

Remember this board losing its mind we let Lou Will walk?

Obviously not even close to same calibre of player, but that was a funny time

If we took on salary that lasted more than 1 year it would’ve. So at that point it would’ve been whatever we could’ve gotten in a trade OR Schroeder. Not both.
