They're going to be paying Hali and Siakam 80 million next year. Not sure if they can even add another huge contract.

Due to the new cap rules, most teams are only going to have 2 max deals going forward.

Yea feel like they will use all those young guys to be low cost support players, letting expensive role players like Buddy and Brown go. Don't see them trading for anyone else big. Turner is as big as it gets in their big 3.

Nesmith/TJ are good good value guards for half the price of what they were paying Buddy and Brown. The they still got a few other guys to fill in at the forward positions in Smith/Walker/Jackson.

They will lose at least 2 of those games IMO.

With the Cavs playing as well as they are without Garland and Mobley, Knicks playing so well after getting OG and Miami who will improve their team with a trade or two, they likelihood of Indiana staying at their #7 position now is high. They will have to win 1 of 2 games in the Play-in tournament to make the playoffs. They lose 2 games, the pick becomes a lottery pick but very unlikely to be top3. Pressure is on them. I mean, they'll likely make it out of the Play-In (can't lose to Orlando and Bulls back to back, no way) but the fact that they will be in that position means a nice mid-teens pick for us.

So it’s either package for the young guys or picks. Pacers seem to have (one) more moves after the trade.

I think that’s what Masai took (the picks) rather than their young guys.

ya, I think the likely scenario is they finish 7th, win the play-in game and the pick ends up 16th or 17th, which would be a solid pick.

Heat just got better so hopefully they can now safely lock up a top 6 seed. Now we need the Magic to start winning again.

I had a feeling they rushed him back, just so he could be there for Siakam’s debut.

Pacers might be cooked.

2024 pick is top 3 protected;
if pacers end up top 3, raptors get 2024 2nd (worst of ind/cle/utah) currently #53, pacers 2025 2nd.

They definitely rushed him back too soon. Hamstring injuries can be pretty bad. Even if it was a timeline of say 2-3 weeks, a lot of times teams would add an extra week and brought them back gradually.
(Except if you're Kevin Durant and you only miss 3 games, apparently...)

It's just too bad the teams below them,

Magic
Chicago
Atlanta
Nets
Us

Probably aren't going to capitalize on this.

Nope.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I think we gotta look to package one (OKC or DET pick) of those with Brown to get the other team to cough up a '25 1st. Bringing in 4 rookies and trying to find them all playing time seems less than ideal, even with the G-league. I'd much rather try to kick the can down the road.

On tankathon it says the pick is unprotected. Where do you see it's top3

Indiana's 2024 1st round pick to Toronto protected for selections 1-3; if this picks falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Indiana will instead convey (i) the least favorable of its 2024 2nd round pick, Utah's 2024 2nd round pick and Cleveland's 2024 2nd round pick and (ii) its 2025 2nd round pick to Toronto [Indiana-Toronto, 1/17/2024]

Nope.

It could happen. That would be absolute worst case for us.

Almost makes me wanna trade the pick now for a future pick just to avoid the 1% chance

It's top 3 protected. Tankathon just shows picks that are protected at their current position.

Anyways, it's a pointless discussion to have because when is the last time a team jumped from outside of the top 10 into a top 3 draft position?
