He made a mistake and paid for it.
I feel for him alot. Gambling is an addiction and disease. The NBA and the Sportsbooks are the the real evil. But your world is safer now that Jontay is gone. I'm sure they caught the real problem today and it wont happen again in the NBA and no other families will suffer from the affect of gambling.
I don't think you understand how gambling work. Some people, probably Raptors fans who were excited about Jontay's potential, bet the over. They lost money, solely because of Jontay's decisions. That's theft. Literal theft.
I had a friend who was addicted to gambling (on stocks), got busted by his wife, and had to go through the 12 step process (one of which was to meet me for coffee and admit what he had done). But he wasn't manipulating the market like Jontay was. He didn't have an addiction problem. He had a fraud problem. And it is, or should be, criminal.
You realize I support the punishment as there is no other option in this case with the money that is involved. He isn't the first player, and he wont be the last. And most will never be caught.
Gambling affects many people in many ways, the innocent and the evil. And it's all negative except for those at the top profiting off of the illness.
I don't believe Jontay was evil. He wasn't even making that much off his bets, he was just making dumb decisions and the guy needs support for his issues. The promotion of gambling by the NBA will ruin far more lives then Jontay ever could if he never got caught and its not even close.
