I mean, lets be honest, the biggest losers here are gamblers. Tanking is so indistinguishable from throwing games because it is exactly that. We've been so accustomed to teams just intentionally losing games for ping pong balls, and cheer it as fans, why would we really care if Billups tells someone he's not trying tonight? For the record, if true, Billups should be banned for life. Tanking is also dumb.
It's a fair point. Is there a real difference ethically between a team intentionally losing a game to get more ping pong balls and a player in one of these games where they're intentionally trying to lose just faking an injury or not try out there to hit an under on a prop bet?
If you're going to make these games not matter, you can't complain when stuff like this happens.
