This article tells us nothing new. It says the Pacers have agreed in principle to the trade. We already knew that-- Toronto is the one holding things up. All it will take is the OK from Tornoto and it is done, but it not a sure deal that Toronto will agree.

Things will have to go pretty well but what I LOVE about this deal is it leaves the Raptors with Bargnani, Moon, Humphries, Kapono and possibly Parker (if the team is getting a star SG back) to trade for another quality player to complement Bosh, O'Neal and Calderon. Would the Nets take Bargs, Kapono, Parker and a future first for Vince? I don't like that deal but it's the kind of thing I'd like to see something similar happen and even if it doesn't I think the Raps will win more than 47 games for the first time in their history this coming season.

If this is the first phase of Bryan trying to swing for the fence it will be easier to swallow. The follow-up moves are of greater interest to me. If one of those includes Vince Carter I'm going to go nuts and I'm afraid Hank and Fairview will have to watch out because there will be a new homer in town. w00t!

I need to see JO's face and reaction to the move.

JO will love us, you will love him.

Sometimes we just gotta let go and look at what is ultimately best for the Raps. I like the TJ-Jose combo but we needed to trade one of them to get help at other positions. Ever since Vince got traded, I can deal with any player that I like in Toronto gets traded.

I thought he was supposed to make it this year? He always has the ball in his hands; he should be on the All-Star team.

17 pick is always a crabshoot and really you can only expect the likes of Graham there.

To be honest, what exactly are we losing here? TJ/Oneal injury risk cancel each other out. TJ is redundant on this team. Capspace is not a big issue because he is an expiring after this year. So all we are giving up is 17th pick for a guy who has potential to be All-Star and covers several of our weakness.

Wrong.
08/09 = $21 million
09/10 = $23 million (player option)
You're insane if you don't think he'll take that player option.

No, what I meant is "after this year" meaning the 08/09 has already started.

In the case of capspace, IMO its better to have expiring contracts then capspace. It's difficult to sign any worthy FA because either their teams can offer more (meaning you have to overpay) or the ones that make it to FA are crap/average players. I can make a case in the last few years more superstars have being gotten through expirings then outright FA.

yeah basically the raps are trying to figure out who they should trade ford for.

Oneal, Diaw, Hamilton, Pryzbilla, Uncle Joe from across the street.

It's gonna be interesting what actually ends up happening

I wish Ford well, I think he'll do well, but we're fine with Jose. Simple as that. And if we do end up with JO and Bosh, we need a good distributor to set up the post game more than we need a guy who tries to break down defences for 22 seconds out of every shot clock.

Yes, JO has been injured for the past 4 seasons and has played a paltry 52 games per during that span but IF he can put that behind him, it means he doesn't have as much mileage as people think. Sure, he's been in the league for 12 years but for the first 4 he averaged just about 10 minutes per game so I'm not sure I understand the lots of mileage comments, aside from the fact that his body seems to be falling apart.

Hopefully he shut it down as precautionary reasons rather than chronic, since the Pacers were out of the playoff hunt. He will be playing for a new contract. The last year of the contract he might be moveable, but with that said it still restricts our options somewhat. It doesn't blow me away but I'm glad we're making moves and taking a risk which, if it doesn't work out, does not devastate us for the long term.

JO has had one really bad injury--in Feb. 2007, to his left knee and that required surgery and then didn't heal properly. Everything else he had since 2004 was a one off--a groin pull, an ankle injury, a shoulder strain--none reoccurring. If the Raptors did their due diligence and are satisfied that JO has finally overcome his knee injury, this could turn out to be a very good trade. JO has something to prove and he doesn't have to carry the weight of the team on his shoulders in Toronto. Bargnani is now free to develop at his own pace and to focus on becoming an offensive force. It's a trade that carries some risk, but if it works, the Raptors are going to be a force. Here's hoping that Bosh, O'Neal, and Bargnani can develop some chemistry.
