This shouldn't be considered in the slightest, nor should it be a notable attribute of his. I'd draft a (Please Use More Appropriate Word) if his basketball IQ was through the roof, and I wouldn't give a damn if he could speak more languages than the Pope if he couldn't communicate on the court.

I think being intelligent helps off the court, which can lead to improvements on it, and it certainly doesn't hurt anybody's game. But, yeah, if you watched Magic play and then listened to him speak then you'd have to conclude that you don't need to be a long-panted genius to be a basketball genius.

I am getting more sold on kanter i know he's a euro but I was listening to an interview with calipari and he said had he played with them this year he would of been the best player in the nation and the number one pick. I know he hypes up his players but that has to mean something considering he has two other freshman who will go in the lottery.

Is Tristan Thompson entering this draft or the next? And Bismack Biyombo?

I'm still waiting on Kanters updated measurements. If he is 6'10 or above, he becomes my 3rd best prospect out of this draft, and I wouldn't mind taking him with the second pick TBH. I know he plays below the rim, but he already has a grasp on good footwork, timing, and post moves. He also has a high motor and runs the floor very well from the youtube videos I've watched of him.

I know nothing about Kanter aside from the same clips that everyone else has seen. But it would be really nice if he could show something in workouts and give the draft another bona fide top 3ish pick.
I liked hearing that he's working out with Tim Grover, even if lots of bad players have done so in the past.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 6
I don't think it's fair to say that Perry has no motor... from watching him he seems a bit like DeMar last year, where he seems to be willing to defer to other players on the team... which isn't the worst thing. Considering that he played out of position at the 5, and was playing with with one of the biggest chuckers in the entire NCAA in Dunn (19th-most in the NCAA for FGAs at 15.2, 26th-worst in FG% at 39.8%), I don't think you can really say one way or another.
I don't think his rebounding is good enough to be a great big man (7.2rpg), but I think he has a lot of potential at SF, assuming his speed/athleticism check out (tbd), handles are good enough (they look better than DeMar's imo), and he can defend on the perimeter (his lateral quickness is supposed to be one of his strong points, let's see how it checks out at the combine/workouts). I think the form on his jumper is good (he needs to improve the consistency at which he hits them though), and his ability to get to the basket and finish is also solid.
As a prospect, he kind of reminds me of DeMar at the same level, except I think he has better handles and can be a better passer/playmaker. The numbers are surprisingly similar. At USC, DeMar averaged 13.9ppg (off of 10.5 FGAs, 4.2 FTAs, shooting 52.3% from the field, 16.7% from 3, 64.6% from the line), 5.7 rebs, 1.5 assists, 0.9 stls, 0.4 blocks, 2.1 TOs, 2.1 PFs, with a 19.3 PER in 33.4 mpg.
This year, Perry averaged also averaged 13.9ppg (off of 9.8 FGAs, 4.6 FTAs, shooting 54.9% from the field, 20% from 3, 66.4% from the line), 7.2rpg, 1.2 assists, 0.4 stls, 0.9 blocks, 2.3 TOs, 2.4 PFs, with a 19.7 PER in 33.9mpg.
IF, after the workouts, we really feel that he can play SF, I think he could really excel on our team.

Perry is such a tease to me. One minute I'm ready to pick him right after Kyrie, and the next I wouldn't consider him in the top-10. What's his work ethic like? Any reports on that?

assuming we pick 4th, and that irving, dwill, and barnes are gone, i'd be willing to take a flyer on pjones. reason being, if he works out he has superstar potential. if he doesn't, we tank another year, grab another lottery pick, and hope maybe the young guys already on the team can bring out the best in him for his second year.
worst comes to worst, we're stuck with a 6'11" guy for a rookie contract. nothing we haven't seen before. honestly, the position we're in right now, we can only go UP.
that said, i would be much happier picking up irving, barnes, or dwill, in that order of preference.

Hey, if you saw more energy, great- believe me, I want him to be good. But 4.5 defensive rebounds, for the 165th best rebounding team in the country, and .9 blocks at C with his length/hops kind of suggests that he's at least part slacker, and that's the PJIII I saw the most. That he grabbed a nice 2.6 offensive rebs per suggests that he could go get it off the glass when he wanted to, whether he could box out or not.
If he could guard the perimeter at SF and at least chose to do so in the 4th quarter I could live with that, but if he physically can't guard 3s then no way. I really don't know how you figure that out before training camp at the earliest.

+1
Kyrie
Barnes
DWill
PJones
Kanter
Is the order I would take them.

Kanter made Sullinger look average in that McDonald's game awhile back. Although it is only one game it should count for something when rating this guy. I would take him No. 4 depending on what position our coaches feel D.Williams will play as a pro, either SF or PF.
Also lots of people feel a year off will hurt his development, but is Blake Griffin hurting after missing a whole year?

If Bismack Biyombo is available at the end of the first round, I hope Colangelo is willing to buy a pick. He sounds like a Serge Ibaka type player and from the few clips I've seen of him he has outstanding physical attributes. He's already 10x better than Alabi and Ajinca.

I pray to god Sullinger doesn't win the title next year. And there's no way Dwill stays, his draft stock is as high as it gets this year (top 3 pick) and he's unlikely going to be rank this high in next year's draft anyways.

I'd love to take a flyer on either Bismack or Nogueira with a late pick if they're around. Both of them are very long, athletic, and defensive-minded. Bismack is built like a tank at 243lbs as well. In this draft, I wouldn't be surprised to see teams reach for them early though. Should be fun to see them both play tomorrow at the Hoop Summit.

Good to hear the players aren't being swayed by the chance of a work stoppage. The money will eventually come If they get drafted and the agents will gladly have their backs until the new CBA is figured out.
The same is true for North Carolina's Harrison Barnes. For Williams and Barnes it just comes down to this: Do they want to get paid and drafted in the top five, or do they really want to return to college and make a run toward a national title in 2012? Arizona and Carolina are contenders with them on the roster. The potential NBA lockout shouldn't affect a decision -- agents can take care of these top picks during this time.
