Almost like the players couldn't care less about it. That can't be it.

Gotta take that
they shut down BI which i didnt think they'd do

I think the contract getting done so quickly was unexpected and once that was settled there was no need for him to step on the floor.

I'm sure they don't, just find it hilarious they managed to win with a sub 1% likelihood outcome in a game that everyone but the players didn't want to win.

I’m so happy this isn’t the Raptors, because make no mistake had they made the play in this would have been the outcome:

No one needed an 83rd game to know these Bulls, who went 39-43 in the regular season, aren’t a playoff team. In the end, a competitive March and April, when half the league is on cruise control, meant nothing. The only postseason experience the young Bulls players got was how to deal with getting your butts kicked in front of your frustrated fans.

Even if he did it by mistake you can talk about prospects in the tank threads…it used to be one of the pillars of discussion in these threads. It’s not limited to just the draft thread.

The Bulls are probably gonna soon give Giddey/White big extensions and be faced with the same problem as they had in the DeRozan/Lavine era in terms of committing to a core that won't win you anything. Buzelis is probably the one guy worth keeping around and he's really more of a 2nd/3rd star down the road. But that trio isn't contending for anything regardless. Though who knows, maybe they'll get some D.Rose-like luck in winning the lottery this year lol

They're on pace to have max cap space in 2026 even with some extensions to giddey n white, what they do with that is on them, but I guess that's what they're tryna build for. They should try and bottom out next year

Draft prospect discussion should go in the draft thread. This thread is for arguing about the merits of tanking vs competing with the occasional mudslinging thrown in.

LOL... this thread would be buried on the second page if not for all of these irrelevant and un-necessary comments.

The tank is over. Moving forward, any comments about draft prospects or the impending outcome of the draft lottery can be made in the 2025 NBA Draft Discussion thread which has now been stickied at the top of the forum: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2450680

Um, the tank threads have always been about keeping track of the tank, talking about prospects, long term team outlook discussions. They’ve only gotten shut down when the season starts and tanking is premature as an overall topic. The past 4 years this has been the general trend of these threads (all 14 of them). It’s literally one of the most active threads every year so your point isn’t even valid.

Cap space means nothing now, especially with Luka in LA. The NBA has pretty much legislated meaningful free agency out of the league with the new CBA.

Masai has been calling this for years now. NBA free agency is no longer ... and it's basically only for role players now.

Free agency has turned into the "trade portal" ie. stars asking out and teams looking for the best package ... which we've already seen a bunch with stars the last few years. It's only going to continue.

Blake Murphy articulated this point pretty well towards the end of the season on his show with Bonner. The BI trade for example was effectively a pre-emptive FA signing that was affordable enough to justify. You just need to be on the same page with the player and agent on an extension.

It's just a smart way to increase your talent level opportunistically if you can grab a looming FA at a suppressed price and avoid them hitting the open market. Getting BI for a pick in the 20s just straight up puts the team in a better spot, regardless if BI is here until the end of his contract or is subsequently flipped.

Yup, and it goes even further. You can't carry more than 10% cap space into the season so you only have space when FA begins until the pre-season starts. So the window on space is 3 months and you HAVE To use it. How many teams at a given time are going to risk this going into the off-season? Imagine striking out on your target and now you have to give out a bunch of large Bruce Brown type contracts in the hopes that you can trade it. That means very few teams will have space any given off-season.

In turn, this limits the leverage higher paid players have in FA - potential destinations are limited and is anyone going to buy the threat of "I'm going to the Nets if you don't pay me" for a player that wants to win? So the players further double down on a trade before FA to get to a destination they can at least somewhat control.

Return to Toronto Raptors
