Re: Lottery Pick, Ricky Rubio?
I used to be a huge fan of Rubio but it's come to the point where it's not worth giving up what it would take to get him.
He's been far too unimpressive lately.

I'm still a fan of Rubio. It just depends on the asking price of the Wolves.

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
What about this offseason?
To TOR: Biedrins
To GSW: Barbosa
Then the 2nd part of this deal so GSW saves money to sign a C
To TOR: Bell + GSW 2nd
To GSW: TE
Warriors save 23.5 million overall. 5.4 next year and get someone who I think would be a good fit at SG/PG for them. Curry/Monta/Barbosa is a nice rotation of players who can play both PG and SG
Raptors get a young center. Only 25 and needs a change badly
Then
To TOR: Flynn + Armon
To POR: Ridnour + Ellington
To MIN: Calderon + Fernandez + E.Williams
Final result
Flynn / Bayless / A.Johnson
Derozan / Weems / Bell
Barnes / Klezia / J.Johnson
Bargnani / Davis
Biedrins / Johnson / Alabi

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
Since Kyrie Irving won't be availible when we draft we're going to fill out #2 hole at the draft (SF)
So I say this:
Draft:
Terrance Jones - We need a scoring + Rebounding SF - and he's the only avalible one with that skillset
TRADE: (where we fill our SF Spot)
Andrea + Jose + 2012 Raptors 1st Rndr
for:
Biedrins + Steph Curry
G-State was contemplating moving him already this year, and their gunna get bounced in the playoffs, clearly because their backcourt tandem isn't well-rounded enough...
and after the yr Monta put up, everyones clear their gunna stick with him.
They've got a good Reb big (meaning they dont need to worry about Andrea's lack of Reb)
+ they've got a score-first guard (Monta),
NO shooting big + dishing PG....
That and we're looking pretty bad right now - so our 2012 pick looks like a top-5 pick

I highly doubt it, Golden State is last in the league in defensive rebounding and 3rd-worst in defensive efficiency. Biedrins is their best defensive rebounder, and Jose/Bargs are our worst defenders... I just don't see why they'd do it.

Calderon hasn't been too bad this year. He's been good in most regards, and his defense is pretty improved. His value is probably pretty decent with all the monster assist games he's had, and overall ability to be a floor general. As for Bargs.....I dunno I could see Golden State liking a 3-point shooting big. It's not like they're known for much defense. Hopefully the 2012 pick is what could get them to bite. I've been hearing the 2012 draft is stacked, so maybe we offer our 2011 pick if it doesn't look like we're getting a player that we're targetting.
Either way, BC has been too quiet for over a year now, so I expect a big trade on draft night and stuff like that.

In terms of acquiring a C, I think I'd rank our potential options in this order:
1. see if we can deal for Bogut/Bynum
2. consider drafting Valanciunas/Kanter
3. see if signing DeAndre/Gasol/Nene/Chandler is a possibility
4. deal for Biedrins

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
I'd probably go hard after one of those free agents first.
I don't see Bogut or Bynum being available to us at all, unless Milwaukee wants Bargs. Otherwise, we'd have to really break the bank with picks, Ed, DeMar etc.
Are those rookie centers going to come in and get the job done for us? Can they rebound and play help d? I don't want a rookie C holding as back.
Biedrins is a veteran center and I'd probably want him before any rookie center (even though I don't know much about those 2 guys, they could end up being Joakim Noah's for all I know)

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
Do any of you who have suggested we take on Biedrins realize how much his game has died off?
Seriously.
Do you ever look at his stats, or just think what he was 2-3 years ago is what he is today.
The guy is pathetic. He plays 10-20 minutes and is a shadow of his former self. Yet he's paid like a star.
You can have him for beans, but only a moron would take on that salary.
Some of you try so hard to trade Bargnani that you spout ridiculousness and come out looking (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
Here, look: Does this look like a $10 million player, our salvation at C? Look at his last 10 games? He's in Alexis Ajinca territory. His PER is 12.37 and falling, a career low by far, but consistent with his decline of the past two seasons.
http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2427/andris-biedrins
I love the fantasy spin
The guy couldn't play D even when he was rebounding well. He was never a good primary defender, just decent help. But we don't need help so much as we need a decent primary defender if you are moving Bargnani. And Biedrins CANNOT defend the post. He is a foul machine in the post. He needs to be paired with a big body PF like a Sullinger who is built like a brick outhouse and can defend big men in the post.
I'm sorry, but some of you dudes make all Raptors fans look like blinking idiots.
I wouldn't trade Jose for Biedrins. I certainly wouldn't trade Barbosa for him. I wouldn't trade a cripple on long-term disability for Biedrins and his monumentally crappy contract.
For sure, if the next CBA has an amnesty, this guy is getting waived, and if expects another NBA contract, it will short and sweet, otherwise he'll be back in Latvia.
And you want this garbage to be our starting center?
Seriously.

Biedrins was put back in the starting lineup Wednesday night and scored four points with five rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes in Golden State's loss to New Jersey.
Spin: In terms of production, Biedrins the starter is barely distinguishable from Biedrins the reserve. This is the kind of middling output we've seen from Biedrins for much of the season. It's too late in this season to do anything about it, but you can bet the Warriors will be addressing their center position before 2012-13 begins.

Harsh but true. He's a $10 million irrelevance. You could argue once upon a time that he was the mirror opposite of Bargnani - all defence, no offence, but now he gives you nothing on either side of the ball and he's the league's worst free throw shooter to boot so he no longer attacks the offensive glass for fear of being fouled and sent to the line. It's sad. It's pathetic.

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
By the way, if we're going to take someone off the scrap heap for Bargnani, offer him for Danny Granger. I wouldn't, but at least that deal has some symmetry. Granger is a low percentage shooter, being blamed for Indiana's current poor state of play - accused of lack of effort and mailing it in by the Indy Star beat writer. And Paul George is probably more an SF than SG and could play his natural position. The only thing that might give Indiana pause about a straight up Bargnani for Granger deal is that Hibbert, for all of his size, is not a great rebounder either.

Biedrins is broke, you're right.
Even when he was going good, and he had PERs of close to 20 in his earlier years, he couldn't play 30 minutes b/c he'd simply wear down, get fatigued.

I'd be happy with any of those... but I don't know about Nene or Chandler... they're great pieces to have on a playoff team... but by the time we're relevant, they'll be on the decline. Also, Biedrins has lost all his confidence... I don't even think he knows how to play basketball anymore. If we're getting him, there would have to be incentive. If we could somehow get Curry with him, without giving up our young guys, I would jump all over it.
One option you haven't put out there is Greg Oden. I know he has his injury issues, but I would take a big chance on him. He's still only 22/23 and has showed flashes of dominance - BC's gonna give Bargnani at least one more year... what better big guy to put beside him than potentially one of the most dominant Cs for years to come in the NBA if he can just get healthy and stay that way for at least 75 games a season. I would try to spend whatever it takes to not allow Portland to match - possibly a front loaded contract, similar to what Nick Collison signed.
If they all fill out to their potential, we could have an OKC type of team soon enough:
Calderon/Bayless
DeRozan/Weems
Barnes/Kleiza/Johnson
Bargnani/Johnson
Oden/Davis
A young team with depth and the chance to grow together. We would need to upgrade our future at the PG position if Bayless doesn't pan out. Ideally, if Kabongo can prove himself to be a lottery pick next season, and he falls in our laps in next years draft... it would make for an amazing story and endless marketing potential... didn't he say his dream was to play for the Raptors one day?
