Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 12
I see Portland going big man for sure with their first pick. The reason being there's so much PG/SG talent in this draft that there'll be a ton available at 11. So they go Drummond/Leonard/Sullinger at 6 and there'll still be someone like Marshall, Lillard, Waiters, Ross there at 11
Btw. 3 weeks to the day

It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

For the Lillard supporters. Don't get me wrong on what I said a couple of days ago, if we draft him I'm behind him 150%. I HATED Valanciunas last year, he was the last guy I wanted but now I can't wait for him to play for us. I just get the mediocre vibe from Lillard, I don't know why. The competition level scares the hell out of me though, but he is an Oakland kid so he'll probably get chances to workout with GP and JKidd. The thing is, I also get this Westbrook vibe from Lillard. Russell wasn't supposed to go that high and now he's a top-5 point guard. I'll have to wait and see, but the best way to describe me on Lillard is torn (or even bi-polar).

^^^ haha that was awful. I know he's not usually the best interview but that was concerning. Might have just caught him out with a team he rarely sees play as he is on the east coast. But that might be a little kind as he never interviews brilliantly.
If he's immature and nervous, I'm not concerned. Or is he just a bit slow? Because that would be a big red flag. I've always thought he was just a bit immature but with his last couple of draft related interviews I am no longer sure as they have all largely been uninspired, unsure and largely vacant. Not the best impression when you're interviewing for a multi-million dollar salary.

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 12
He can't name any Blazers, but he knows enough about basketball to step right in on a team and be their 2nd or 3rd best player during an incredible 12 game winning streak against multiple top-10 opponents after just 30 games of college ball, and as a sophomore, he was smart enough either not to force too many contested shots, or he's the greatest scorer of all time, since he managed to get 60% of his shots inside the arc to go in.
I like that guys like Johnson-Odom (he asked the Kings why they thought Thomas excelled and Fredette struggled) and Sullinger and Rivers say all the right things about finding a winning role on an NBA team, but I can't hate on an 19 year old, and until I see a study that proves being an NBA fan correlates with being a good player, I'll stay skeptical. I know what the Raptors need at PG, but if they drafted me to play there I'd literally get killed without even drawing a foul. It would just be incidental contact, and maybe I'd hang on for a few days, but I doubt I'd last the week after a hard screen by Alabi in practice.

I'm not judging Lamb on that interview, just throwing out the question and saying that his mannerisms and disposition will be a concern to some teams because it just isn't great with what we've seen the last week. He is definitely an intelligent player on the court though.
If you asked JV what he knows about the Blazers he'd probably also say 'the tall guy and the lighter skinned one' and I'm clearly not writing him off. Deron Williams watches little basketball outside of game tape - that wasn't the bigger concern in that interview though. Its his general demeanor and unsure, nervous answers to where he sees his own future that raise a small red flag.

Don't blame you buddy; I'm the exact same way with Lillard.
It just bothers me so much that I didn't see him play better competition. The bigger thing that bugs me is Stuckey did similar and while he's solid; he's not spectacular. I have belief Lillard can also be solid like some of these guys that creep up from minor schools ie/ Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Rodney Stuckey but some of the excitement some people have around him is as if it was actually another Westbrook (who displays out of this world athleticism) or like he'll be Tony Parker with more athleticism. I have my doubts.
I think IF we're incredibly LUCKY he would be like a taller Ty Lawson or something...meaning PERHAPS a borderline all-star if he lives up to hype but I just can't see him being amongst the top 7 PGs but who knows?!?

If anything, Lillard was the guy who impressed the most in Chicago today. I think he's going to be gone by our pick and we're going to be sorry he didn't drop. And if he's a borderline all-star some day, I think that would be a pretty damn good get with the 8th overall pick.

Obviously.
The point was I just don't ever see him being at the level of Westbrook or Parker like some posters do. Before you get upset I'm not professing to have a crystal ball; I just don't see it. My post was just pointing out why I think it's valid for posters to share a similar skepticism when you take a look at a player like Stuckey who basically did the same thing.
As for not having an opportunity to draft him; that may be the case as I've heard plenty of times that POR is high on him and if that were the case it wouldn't shock me if BC tries very hard to trade up to get Barnes since it's highly unlikely that GSW takes him.

Yeah, it's so hard to tell when a guy faces such terrible competition. He might as well be a 21 year old high school prospect for all I care with the opponents he faced. A big part of my judgement of a prospects potential success in the NBA is how he played in big games, and so far it's been pretty successful for me. That shows the intangibles, not what's on the stat sheet. The only intangible I have for Lillard is that he's from Oakland and guys are usually raised tough out there.
So, the jury is out for me. Personally, I'm sticking to him being Mo Williams at best in the NBA. The Jeff Teague comparisons don't work for me since I think Lillard will be better. But if I had to project a career for Lillard I'd say 15-17 ppg & 4 apg on good percentages with tons of hate on his ability to run a team.

Just went skimming through the POR forum...if it were up to their fanbase Drummond would be at the top of their list and they would just pray Lillard falls to them @ #11 but they seem to think they would be fine with Marshall as well.
