Guys please read this again after considering that Nick Nurse said that Gary Trent Jr only fits the Raptors when he is playing defense and getting steals/deflections.

Cam Thomas is like a shorter Gary with less defense.

This team already has too many guys that don't pass and halt the offence. I love Precious but he does this too.

I am alright with getting Cam IF we trade Gary.

But Nurse won't play Cam because he won't play within the offense and puts very little energy into defense. He will get lost on switches and then Nick won't give him consistent minutes. He will fall out of his offensive rhythm and fans will get frustrated and call him a Flynn clone. Cam could work out very well here but it isn't a slam dunk.

You can only have so many of these type of guys on your roster and you have to have a coach that is willing to play them.

SurgeIblocka wrote:Cam Thomas’s profile from the draft lets look at his weaknesses:

Weaknesses
Tunnel Vision

This happens with all great scorers, but for Thomas it’s a little more of a concern. Even though he committed just 1.7 turnovers per game last season, the stat that really stands out is just 1.4 assists per game. Once the ball got in Thomas hands he often didn't give it up, which led to forced shots that had no chance of finding the bottom of the net.

Inconsistent Defender

This is a bit of a surprise based off Thomas height (6’4’’) and weight (210), which would make you assume he is a pretty solid defender. Even though he can be at times, Thomas got blown by a fair amount last season and just doesn't play with a high motor defensively.

You can tell a lot of Thomas energy goes to the offensive end of the floor as his effort can get called into question at times defensively. Thomas has a good frame though, so he is never going to get pushed around but quicker point guards and shooting guards will go by him and get easy buckets at the rim which has to be cleaned up.

The Cameron Thomas Conundrum
Thomas is the most gifted scoring freshman in the country, but the amount of shots he takes comes at a price

The reason this was merged is that these points (valid as they may be) have been made and discussed ad-nauseum. It's why we aggregate them into a super thread.

Fair enough, I’ll probably go dormant for a few years again.

That seems like an extreme reaction, but okay!

Some peeps are hopping onto the Cam bandwagon so hard its nuts. Its two games. Remember Jeremy Lin and the hot streak he had. Where is he now. Playing for like the Khaohsiung Chicken Steaks or something. No disrepect to J Lin big fan. Just people can go and take two games and then extrapolate it like the guy is the next Jordan. Can Cam Thomas be a good NBA scorer, the answer is Yes. But we don't need a Louis Williams. Fred and Pascal can do that as well and much more.

If he is part of the package great. But let's not get carried away.

Really hope Claxton becomes a Raptor. One can only wish.

Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas? Masai will stand pat if that's what's being offered. Do nothing with Brooklyn and KD demands out and they're ruined for half a decade. Play ball with them and it's more likely we're ruined for half a decade.

Nic Claxton is UFA the same year OG is, so that also makes a 1 for 1 swap not as enticing. Easy pass for me.

no to Cam Thomas.

This seems crazy. KD is -250 to be traded by the deadline? Lol, who is betting that line?
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

he did it last year two days before the deadline. Though, I don't see the point really - just get your deals done and talk about it once the deadline passes on Thursday.

f that

moving the ball to end up in the hands of precious to jack up a three or OG to awkwardly fumble the ball trying to drive to the rim.

No point sharing the ball if it ends up in the hands of offensively challenged players.

I watched the Nets game, win or lose it was hella entertaining.

This aint the local community center or YMCA, shots are not gonna be distributed equally. Scorers shoot more, role players stay in your lane and do your role

And then when Cam Thomas is here doing the same thing we will read about how he is a ball hog and not good for Scottie's development (see, FVV, GTJ)

does the table above mean one could make good money betting on O.G. remaining here past the deadline?

Masai is the best in the business. If there is no trade today that means he definitely getting a better deal in S&T in the offseason. Book it

I wanted to trade with Dallas since Christmas and get either Josh Green or Jaden Hardy minimum and tonight without Luka, they put up 29 pts a piece to beat the Jazz in Utah.

I wanted to do Josh Green for GTJ but Josh Green has been playing too well as of late. That ship has sailed haha.
