I remember leaving to the bar after the Poetl pick and getting the score notification for Pascal Siakam as the 27th pick and said, "huh, shouldnt we have taken Skal or Furkan," and forgot about it. If you told me 3 years later he would be the 2nd option on a title winner for the Raptors I would have thought I was on a shrooms trip lol

I recall being familiar with the name from the draft thread, a few people brought him up pre-draft. I didn't look into him much tho, aside from a draftexpress workout. I wanted Deyonta Davis, and it was rumoured the Raps had interest in Skal at 9, so passing on him at 27 seeemed strange. But after 2 minutes looking at Siakam's BballRef page, I thought the pick had merrit, as his raw and advanced numbers were very strong in college.

I was probably one of the few who wasn't really upset when they picked Siakam because I was somewhat familiar with him and his game from following New Mexico State. I always like to keep track of the Canadian players in the NCAA, so at the time I had been paying attention to New Mexico St. because of Sim Bhullar and Daniel Mullings.

In Mullings final season (a year after being WAC Player of the Year), every game I started noticing this rookie named Siakam filling up the stat sheet. And then every game I got a chance to watch he really stood out. So even after Mullings was gone the next year, I kept track of Siakam and he really turned it on his second year.

I certainly didn't expect anything like this from him, but at the time of the draft I thought "well, at worst he'll add front court depth and be able provide points, rebounding, and defence". I thought there was a chance he could become a starter, which would have been pretty good from a late-1st round pick. But damn, never did I imagine he'd develop into the player he's become!

If they didn't . They'd have been picked by now. Stop basing everything on what you read on mock drafts.
