They got Kessler and Filipowski recently.

And they drafted a landmine in Cody Williams at 10 last year

One rumour is swapping 9 for 12. Probably taking Essenge or Berringer at 12. If were ever true.

But that almost never happens. If Khaman is gone which is probably better than 50-50, the Raps would still have a development space for Derik Queen. With Boucher likely gone there are minutes at the 4 and 5 to take a flyer on his hybrid skillset. He projects to be somewhat better than Jonathan Mogbo but all remains to be seen when comparing Freshman to Seniors. I like the idea of Ujiri persuing Malik Monk and picking Queen. Not sure who is playing point guard if Quickley is dealt. I guess Raps love Shead enough as leader and player. If Darko players can all push the ball maybe is not a terrible problem to have. Queen is a unique player.

Could the Raps be wanting to field:

Scottie - Poetl - Ingram
Shead - Malik Monk

Sounds like they want out of RJ's contract and/or Quickey's. Already.

Apparently Raps 100 per cent wish to retain Poetl.

We have to leave this draft with our back-up 5

Khaman
Wolf
Queen
Asa
Yang

That's my order of interest in bigs.

It remains to be seen how firm that stance is, but league sources say that the Raptors and their very underrated center have mutual interest in hammering out a contract extension in the near future if no trade intervenes.

The Raptors, as we've seen during various recent transaction windows, aren't merely a Durant suitor but have indicated that they're open to various trades in conjunction with a Durant deal as next week's draft approaches. Toronto continues to signal that it's open to moving down from No. 9 in Wednesday's first-round order, sources say, while the Raptors have also made calls to determine what it would take to obtain a second lottery pick. What seems clear: The Raptors have convinced many rival teams that they want to be in position, no matter what, to be able to draft another center

I don't see us making many moves. We are up against the luxury tax so can't absorb salary, none of our higher salary players are viewed highly around the league, and we don't have many roster spots.

Besides a home run move for Giannis I really only see an Agbaji + 39 for late 1st round pick to move up if one of them believes in him being a 3+D guy and Masai has given up on him.

I don't think this is the time to consolidate for a star but I would trade Agbaji for another first and take Fleming. After the rookies show they can fill in the gaps after a trade I would look to make a consolidation trade using RJ + Poeltl + Dick + future [emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]st.

Fleming / Chomche / Yang
Durant / Mogbo
Ingram / Walter
Barnes / Coward
Quickely / Shead

Insert a star at either C or SG and continue filling gaps with the [emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]nd round picks. I am hoping we take Yang if he's there. Chomche and Yang would be great to have in the development pipeline. It'd be great to see them in the summer league too.

Coward is safe and I think he also has plenty of upside too. You can argue level of comp and he’s like a year older though otherwise I find very little to complain about with him.

I think taking two high floor prospects and having them on cheap contracts for the next [emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]] years makes sense. We have big contracts that are eating our cap space we need to figure out a way to retain depth and have a strong starting [emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]]]. The depth would let us keep our starters fresh for the playoffs (probably play in if we're real about it).

Coward and Fleming aren't low ceiling either. I could see them developing into OG level starters.

But I also think Barnes will eventually be a C.

Barnes
Durant
Ingram
Coward
IQ

That's likely the best starting line up for us in the long run.

There is no long run with Durant.

Makes sense. The team badly needs some inexpensive, quality bigs moving forward. Theres no way around it.

Masai made the point during the season ending press conference that getting another young big was something they'd look at. It's always why either through the first of second round they'd target a C. Since the second round isn't looking so hot this year, they may try to either get a player they like later in the first round by moving down or trading a piece like RJ to get a second lottery pick.

Listening to Vecenie, I am getting intrigued with Danny Wolf.

I guess it would make sense for the Raptors to at least considering him, especially if we trade down a couple spots.

He said that Wold broke the shooting record in one team’s building. I wonder if it’s us ?

Maluach seems like the type of player Masai wouldn’t draft historically. His feel for the game and defensive ability is questionable.

His switchability on defense is the selling point - he’s not strictly a drop guy. He also showed more feel in BAL than he did at Duke, where they didn’t ask him to do much.

Offensively is the question. Can the shot develop? If so, he’s a top 3 player in this draft. If not, he may be more of a rotation big.

Random 3:00am thoughts.

- I didn’t initially buy that they would seriously consider moving down, but I’m warming up to it. I think it’s unlikely because I’m optimistically hoping someone they’re high on falls (Fears, Maluach), but there’s a lot of smoke about moving down, and I think they see not a huge drop off from 9 to say 20, especially if they’re going after a big.
- I wonder if they’re lower on Queen than I previously thought because of the defensive limitations. To reach his full potential, Queen is going to need the ball in his hands a lot early on, and he’s not going to get that on this roster. So you’re looking at spending the 9th pick on a G League guy, and I’m just not buying that. I think they want the first round pick to contribute this season, not toil away in the G League.
- compare that to a guy like Wolf, who got basically can slot into that backup center role and develop his shot on the go. He’s a good passer, too, so he fits Darko’s scheme. I think they would rather that at 15 than taking a flyer on Queen at 9 - they would inch further away from the tax line and pickup some other asset in the process.
- I think there are going to be teams that will want to go up and get Noa or Demin at 9.

Other random thoughts

- I think they’re super high on Coward but won’t take him because of the wing depth on the roster. If they do end up taking him, I won’t be surprised because I think he has some of the highest upside in the draft.
- I wonder if there’s some buyer’s remorse on Quickley’s deal, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they brought in a rookie PG in some fashion just in case.
