Shams: Raps acquire Ingram for Brown + Olynyk + IND 1st

People always talk about wanting top 5 picks. Now we have Ingram, Barrett, and Barnes. And we only had to tank for 1 of them.

Though, hopefully, we get another in this draft.

Yeah man, totally have that former second pick, that we already waived. Players and what position they were picked at 5-9 years ago doesn't mean squat. BI and RJ have both underperformed historically speaking for their draft position. BI less so, but still not by much.

But hey, if draft position is all that matters, why not give Anthony Bennett a call, he was a 1st OA, should make us a better team.

I'd say BI is about average for a 2nd overall pick, possibly above average. He's likely better than the 8 2nd overall picks before him (guys like Jabari Parker, Evans Turner, thabeet, d Angelo russell, MKG) You've got Marvin Bagley, Lonzo ball and Wiseman since. Hard to say if Jalen Green will really be better.

This is one of rhe deepest Raptor teams I have seen for scoring talent.

Defense is concerning though.

Barnes, Poeltl, Ochai are all proven defenders. IQ is a good help defender, but needs to be paired with an elite POA defender at the guard spot.

Shead and Walter will be good defenders.

Dick, RJ, Ingram & Battle are all sus defenders

Mogbo is a good defender, but not a legit rotation player yet.

This will be interesting to watch though. See how it all unfolds

I'd rather draft Edgecomb (I'm on board with you on that), trade RJ for a guy who fits the 3&D mold better, and/or trade RJ for a backup big. Honestly Ochai fit's well with that group. I think one of RJ or Gradey has to go long term. RJ because of his salary and Gradey because of his defense.

Gradey we can make that exception tho. He’ll be 6th man , used as a microwave scorer / 3pt threat. Shead mogbo and ochai are all good defenders from the bench already

I'm salivating at the thought of Edgecombe - Ochai - Scottie defense, along with Poeltl and Ingram who are also good defenders. (Ingram is underrated imo, plus he's super long) Gradey/RJ.Walter off the bench or maybe one of them traded down the road. We have a glut of SGs. Starting to see the vision with this team if they all stay healthy. 2nd round maybe Kalkbrenner for backup C?

U need his playmaking and shooting, he’s our best 3 point shooter. RJ is the most expendable because we have enough scoring with Ingram added

This may be the fallback plan.

Get luck in the lottery (Flagg, Harper, Ace) otherwise you fallback to Malauch and get your center for the future.

Masai already showed his hand by dealing OG for players in Quick & RJ when he could have moved him for picks to say Memphis

We were never going to sit at the bottom for multiple years and collect assets and draft high like the traditional rebuild.

Plus we have Scottie Barnes who needs real talent around him in order for him to get better and ultimately the team.

Now I get people's concerns about this deal but it's not like Masai knee jerked and gave up our 2025 or 2026 FRP. He gave up the Indy pick. In a perfect world we give up just 2 seconds but on the overall, getting BI is worth the swing and you bought him for VERY cheap vs what his production is when healthy. Gotta also see where the contract goes but still you make this deal 10/10. We have all our picks moving forward.

Raps are in a pretty good position now since they are going to keep playing the young guys and draft 6-7-8 at worst

We will roll into next year with Scottie leading the way and solid shooters in BI and Quick and an attacking RJ.

Then another thing why I think this deal was done was because they hit on the 2024 draft. We finally have depth. JKW isn't scared of anything and is a 2 way guy. Same with Shead.

Gradey and Ochai are improving.

Add the 2025 pick to this and you've suddenly re-stocked the cupboards considerably in just 12 months. This front office has been very good since 24' draft night.

I like the talent and by no means is this team it. They will evaluate the upgraded talent next year and see where we are. Trades will always happen but overall I like where we currently sit.
