Everybody who thinks that he can't put weight on. Just so you know he weighed ~220 lb when he was 18 now he weighs 244 lb so that is 24 limbs per year? If he continues at this rate he will weigh 260 lb next year which would be a start. Ohh and that grown mass was reported to be muscle mass.

Ohh and he obviously can understand English quite well. His current teams coach is not Lithuanian and he is communicating in English which indicates that his ability to understand is at least decent.

Knight was measured 6'1.5 without shoes, people need to stop calling him tall. He's not tall for a PG and he's definitely not tall for an SG which is basically what he would be playing if he wasn't so short, because he has no Pg skills.

Ed Davis wasn't even on our radar because he was slated to be gone by the time we picked.

JV fills the biggest need on our team, which is the desperate need of not letting the other team's players get open lanes to the basket EVERY TIME they get past their man. Or have you already forgotten about this past season? Also he was by most accounts BPA at 5.

But none of that matters because apparently Colangelo, who was raised by an NBA GM, has 15 years of experience as an NBA GM, can only operate out of his blind hard-on for his pet player.

From what I heard his buyout is at 2.5mill and max we can contribute is .5mill. So it looks like he is definitely not coming here for at least a year. Unless he wants to use 2 mill of his own money. I could be wrong anyone know more about the buyout?

I believe the buyout for 2.5M is to buy out 2 of the remaining 3 years on his contract. It appears he will have to play 1 more year in Lithuania even if he forks over the 2.5.

That's based on an unsigned buyout contrsct so perhaps we can work something diferent out with his club.

As far as I know his contract with rytas was for 3 years he already played there for a year which means that he has 2 years left on his contract. And that means that if he pays 2.5m he would come over this season.

I really think some of these stats are quite telling about just how efficient a ball player he is. There's really no logical reason to bash this guy as a pick based on anything he's done compared to his peers.

The young center played with a proficiency that belied his age, ranking amongst the top players in this group of bigmen in a number of different categories, including overall points per-possession (1.178, #1). Though it is important to note that he posted that mark in fairly small role (7.9 Pos/G), it ranks him well ahead of every prospect in this study, and 7th overall amongst all players in Europe.

Roll man situations accounted for nearly a quarter of his touches (2nd) and he scored on an absurd 73% of his possessions when catching the ball rolling to the rim. This ranked him 3rd in this category behind Tristan Thompson and Kenneth Faried, who saw less than 2% of their offensive possessions in this manner, a far cry from Valanaciunas' 23.2%. Cuts also played a substantial part of his offense (20%), and he converted nearly a point and a half per opportunity (3rd) here as well.

Nearly 82.2% of Valanciunas's shots come around the basket in finishing situations, the most among all the big men in our sample, and he made 68% of those attempts last season (5th).

Its insane, the guy is incredibly efficient, a shot blocker, young, fairly athletic and dominated playing against other players his age. When you factor in his only weakness seems to be strength and he's only 19, I really can't understand how people can try and put such a negative spin on this pick.

The fact that he was slotted at 4 and maybe even higher and the only reason he may have fallen a tiny bit was because of his buyout, and kiddies are still screaming that he wasn't BPA.

THAT is amazing to me. Who knew surrendering your higher reasoning was laudable? 2 good PGs and a defensive beast big were on the board and we took the poor man's Pau Gasol instead. He might go well with the poor man's Dirk? With all due respect to Harry and Mustard, no amount of circle-jerking from the veteran posters will make this a great pick.

you could very easily say those two point guards will never be anything more than tiny shooting guards, and that the big defensive beast played one on none and actually LOST.

I actually wanted Knight or Kanter, but Val will be a good player. He already is a good player, just needs to fill out.
