I'm baffled by the flak I was given on my article by several posters and a journalist. Doug Smith called it embarrassing.

You know what's embarrassing, the fact that our entrenched media seems complicit in letting a sub-par team, remain sub-par. I'm not sure if they truly believe in Colangelo or fear questioning the organization because they might lose 'connections'.

Either way, we haven't sniffed the 2nd round in how long?

Did you compare Bobcats schedule to Raps?

Their best player (Gerald Henderson) has only played two games. They have a rookie SG and rookie SF in the starting lineup. And they beat us. Need I say more? They also beat Indiana, Dallas, and the Bucks at home.

Who is the rookie SG they are playing? I haven't watched any Bobcat games this year to tell you what they're doing right, but man oh man I certainly hope it isn't mostly Kidd-Gilchrist. I wanted that guy on the Raptors since the beginning of last season, thought he was the missing piece the Raptors have been looking for all these years. I kept getting more depressed when his stock moved up and the Raptors decided to win meaningless games towards the end of the year. Oh well, till the next draft! Que sera sera

As fans what are we hoping for? We have no draft pick, have an awful record, an average GM.

It sucks

Jeffery Taylor (their second round pick). He has been playing very well. Shut down DeRozan like it was nothing.

No doubt about it.

If you read his post in Grange's voice it really does fit.

Just two major trades left to go? Wow! Amazing!

How many years will that take. We barely have enough assets to do a single big trade and not very likely we get an all star for anything we have. Especially with no first round pick to trade now.

On the right path? That is just a joke. BC continues to make bad decision after bad decision. When he says the team is going to be competitive we suck. And when he says we are tanking, we are competitive. He has no understanding of where this team is at from year to year. Signing Nash and Fields for 3 years and 56 Mill combined is a viable strategy now??? Its insanity. We could be 0-15 now with an injured Nash and amnestied Jose.

BC thinks we are 'accelerating' forward and the car is in reverse. We need a new driver.

whoknows is a Bargs fanboy. Thinks the Raptors will turn it around and make the playoffs this season and next season. Defends BC. Fits Grange to a tee.

But... but... he was born in Sweden, the softest of the soft Euro countries, are you sure you weren't smashed when watching this game?

You write articles?

The problem with our media is they are not well versed enough in NBA basketball to step out too far with an opinion like firing a GM. They can look at his win-loss record, but it becomes difficult since they don't know who might be a viable replacement. Our regular media are just guys who grew up watching the Raps. The guys who actually know NBA ball and know people around the league.....work for MLSE.

Watch the baseball beat. Elliott, Richard Griffin.... There are baseball lifers. Old men who have been around the game forever. Guys who can recount the greats of the game pre 1970's. Our media guys barely remember the Jordan years. The baseball guys could actually think of replacement GM's or managers, because they know their leagues. Not the basketball beat.

Did Doug Smith send you an e-mail? What did you say in response? You better watch your back. Clownangelo probably hired a PI to spy on you.

LOL, that duffman article is funny. It totally reads like a RealGM post, not a real article.

Ha no, it was in the comments of his blog. It's fine, I'm not overly upset about it. Criticism is part of the game, though I would have liked a REASON for why it was embarrassing. Not sure about calling someone out.

I'm new to the field and to the media, so I get that a bold comment can be viewed as ignorant.

But to JROC's comment above, you can find a replacement, no doubt. We had one in our organization who left for Denver, and look at the way they're building their team. We shouldn't let fear of the unknown mask the fact that our team's on court performance is in shambles.

I had been a fan of the Raptors since the first year. I am no longer because I cannot stomach the loosing and I have no hope that the future will be any different. Was I a typical fan? Most likely; I went to 5-8 games a year and lived and breathed every game, transaction and draft. But no longer.

As a fan of multiple sports in Toronto, the common denominator of MLSE and loosing teams cannot be ignored. What is the correlation? I could guess that it has to do with a priority focus on profits/money, "product" and the like versus the "just win" philosophy. If you consider the NFL's policy of not letting corporations own teams, there must be something to this strand of thought. Ultimately, though, if the philosophy of the ownership is to put "good product" in the arena and on the air, is the team's winning record going to be as good if you focus on winning? I would content not because they aren't necessarily aligned goals.

So what does this have to do with Colangelo? Personally, I don't think he is a great GM. This team doesn't have a star player and in this league, with very, very few exceptions, those teams don't win, so why build one? So, yes I would fire Colangelo but I would say that the ownership priority has to change to "WIN" as well before a successor is hired.

Where has BC been anyways? Have not seen any interviews from him. Not much leadership is being shown; seems like BC has checked out.

Meh do we not all know how Dougs crap goes? It's always the opposite, everyone knows it. "No way Derozan signs an extension until the summer".....5 min later DD's signed it and so on.

So take it as a compliment. Besides the only thing wrong with the article (with toronto sports media in mind) is that you didn't get on your knees and fellate MLSE/BC like the rest of them do.
