And the game is over. Jonas had 17 points on 8/8 shooting in 22 minutes. Offensively he was basically unstoppable. In the post he did what he wanted, in the 2nd half he had a few opportunities to score after grabbing an offensive rebound. Defensively his man to man defense was good. The biggest problem though was defending the pick and roll. You can tell Jonas is instructed to always double team the ball handler, but Lithuania's rotations after the pick and roll were horrendous. Ayon had like two wide open dunks, because absolutely nobody rotated and he had a clear path to the basket. I think they only once rotated correctly, so I don't really know if all the blame for that would necessarily have to go on Jonas.

I dunno if it's the general plan for LTU, but Jonas seems to be quiet for most of the game, and then at the end he gets extended minutes and touches and he beasts. Jonas seems to step it up in the 4th quarter which is good to see. Now if only Casey doesn't bench him in 4th quarters..

I think Lithuanians coacj does Casey in reverse. Casey was to give Jonas all touches in the first quarter, and Kazlauskas plan is to give Jonas touches in the 4th lol.

I wouldn't say he was quiet for most of the game. He had plenty of touches in the first quarter and scored 7 points, but got benched because of foul trouble after like 6 minutes. He didn't play in the 2nd quarter because of said foul trouble. In the third he again had a few touches in the post, but Lithuania was absolutely hot from outside, so again, I can understand why he only scored 2 points. In the 4th he added 8 more points, 4 of which came after offensive rebounds and 2 that came after a Lithuanian guard just basically handed him the ball right under the basket. He didn't get more involved in the 4th quarter more than in other ones. The best thing you can take away is that he doesn't force his offense and looks much more comfortable in the post, uses a bunch of really quick and nice fakes, passes out when he needs to.

Jonas the only Lithuanian player with a negative +/- among those with 12+ min. He shot well. That means his defense is still pretty bad.

Not necessarily true. For multiple reasons. BackseatBoss's post with the recap explains at least one of those reasons. If you're going to use a slower big man, it has to be to your advantage. You can't have weak rotations when the other team puts the big into PnR situations and you're trying to trap the guard; and offensively you have to feed your big man so they can't handle him and are forced to add some size into the lineup on the floor. Typically with added size, the other team will slow down, which is to Jonas's (and Lithuania's) advantage. Other than in short bursts, Lithuania doesn't seem to do this.

Glad to hear Jonas had a good game

EDIT: And to add, +/- is the worst basketball stat on the planet in my opinion. At best it tells you a little bit over very long periods of time.

defense against pick and roll was bad. but I don't think it's Jonas fault afterall. He seems to to try to guard the smaller player all the time and the big guy is always left wide open. It must be planned by a coach but not very well executed by players...

JV highlights around 25 seconds (pick and roll, spin move finish), 2:03 (post move), 2:25 (block), 3:08 (rebound + easy putback), 3:19 (tip-in), 3:30 (Hakeem Olajuwan imitation), 3:39 (Shaq imitation, monster dunk  )

Some suspect defense too #growingpains

Best is def around 3:39

So he played with a lot of lines that didn't play much and didn't get to play with the most effective lines?

He ate up Mexico at will in offense. Defensively looked solid for what I saw. Watched game while doing some paperwork on and off. Made no
Big plays made no bad plays. Played safe passively which would be appropriate for the competition.

From what I've seen so far, Jonas has improved quite a bit. More confident and patient, doesn't force the play which was the major issue last year. He became more confident in his own ability to deal with different situations, this being a big stumbling stone for him. For our NT he is a very important player now, which was not the case earlier. Good thing is that he will improve further.
To look good in a defensive system that Lithuania employs, I think you have to be uber mobile big man, like Garnett. I think only Jankunas looks good in it because he is very quick, Lavrinovic bros look awful though. Jonas is quite average. But he is very solid in the post though and doesn't let anyone rape him 1on1.

I'd predict something like 14/9 from him next year in NBA. One step at a time :)

Along with this, it is noticeworthy that JV's midrange shooting is 67%! TBH, sample is quite small, i.e. 2 made on 3 attempts. Nevertheless it is a lot more than he did in exhibition period
