That’s what they want to believe and so do philly fans. And to some degrees so do we.
Cause when you think about it, we don’t make sense. You can’t really put a finger on it. People on the outside think it’s Casey but we really know that’s not the case. He’s improved but not to the degree that it explains the way we’re playing. People point to our new offence but fail to realize that we are finally just catching up to the modern era. We aren’t the warriors or rockets who have refined the new modern offence. We still fall back on our old habits.
Some point to DeRozan but he still has deficiencies in his game that doesn’t quite explain our success. The numbers point to the bench as the key but it still doesn’t explain the success. It doesn’t really answer the ‘how?’ Or ‘why?’. The general consensus last year was our bench had gotten worse and even those who argued against that, never dared to imply that a group of 2nd and 3rd year players would lead the league in bench rating.
Even if we say it’s our bench it still doesn’t explain how we are so much better than last year with so few additions. You can point to Boston and Philly and see how they improved. In the case of Boston it’s a whole new cast with a top tier coach and subsituting their biggest defensive liability while maintaining his offensive presence, on some level we can point to that and say that is a different group so yeah it makes sense they would preform differently. Philly finally has a healthy embiid and with Ben, it makes sense why they are so good.
And when teams look at the future of the Eastern conference they think of the Celtics, the 76ers and the Bucks. But when teams look at the standings there we are. Better than those teams everyone was betting on. The raptors are just there. And instead of acknowledging that we don’t really have an idea why this team is elite it’s easier to believe that this team is a pretender, even to us raptors fans.
According to the media, the Raptors were supposed to be done after last year's sweep. Just another footnote in a chapter of the NBA's history. Yet another addition to the list of victims of LeBron James' unprecedented 7 year long dominance of the Eastern Conference, like the Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Boston Celtics before them. But this team just keeps coming back and getting better to the annoyance of the Raptors-hating media people who show they don't have a damn clue when they spew out their tired and outdated talking points about the Raptors. How could the Raptors possibly go further than 43-39 without muh plus-minus gawd PatBrick Patterson coming off their bench? Why would the Raptors bring back
playoff choke artist Kyle Lousy to sustain muh mediocrity when they could just tank and wait for LeDad to retire? These narrative-peddling media people just don't have a damn clue.
