Re: 2025 NBA Draft Discussion Part 8
Wouldn't be shocked if VJ, Tre, Maluach, maybe even Fears go ahead of Ace. I think Ace is most likely to slip.
Ace's stats aren't analytically friendly (questionable efficiency, assist rate, ft rate), he measured below expectations and Givony described his interviews as "polarizing"

If I had to bet on someone dropping on draft night it would be Ace. I think he got some flaws and might not be a winning player

I actually had the Jalen Johnson comp for Asa Newell. He is a draft archetype that needs to be reviewed further. Jalen Johnson was a steal where he was picked in 2021 and about 6'9, good all-around game who went 20th overall.
• One of the more unique players in college basketball, Johnson handled the ball quite a bit as a freshman, even if he started many sets under the rim as well. Generating nearly a quarter of his opportunities in transition scoring 1.00 points per transition possession [47th percentile], he showed the ability to grab and go off the glass, finish emphatically filling lanes, and find the open man in space. Scoring more consistently with his left hand some games than others, Johnson has room to become more reliable in that regard and more savvy using his tools to get to the line.
• In the half court, Johnson did some of his best work at the rim. Averaging 1.55 points per cut possession [94th percentile] and 1.39 points per shot around the rim in the half court [87th percentile] overall, his ability to get downhill was a plus at times, but his timing as a cutter and consistency finishing when operating off the ball drove his efficiency. Finding the open man zipping passes past defenders but making some avoidable mistakes as a facilitator, Johnson had some ups and downs looking to create off the bounce.
• Averaging 1.65 points per catch and shoot jump shot in the half court [99th percentile] on limited attempts, Johnson is still ironing out his shooting mechanics and did not show much in the way of pull-up and free throw shooting ability.

I don't think neither Noa or Asa are going to get downhill too often in the NBA. Maybe Derik Queen is the closest to Jalen Johnson judging from per36 numbers, although Queen is not a shooting threat. I'd say Nique Clifford might be close.

I'm of the same mindset that he's the most likely to slip of the projected top 5.

Noooo lol not our King Maluach.
Even if they don’t I have less and less confidence he’s makes it to our pick. If we even hold on to this pick it’s likely gonna be one of Bryant, Coward, Noa or darkhorse Fleming.

No, highly unlikely, I don't think Harper's son drops to 9th.

Feel like Ron Harper makes a lot of sense if Milwaukee & San Antonio are in trade talks

I agree, I was just saying it jokingly.

spurs at 2 and 14
raptors at 9
rockets at 10 are the only logical teams.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft Discussion Part 8
Khaman Maluach is the best big man in this draft class. At over 7'0″ tall with a near 7'7″ wingspan, Maluach is immediately going to make an impact as one of the league's best shot-blockers. He also has the potential to be an elite pick-and-roll screener. This is not only because of his lob-threat abilities but also because Maluach has the potential to become a pick-and-pop shooter.
Between his footwork in the paint and on the perimeter, Maluach has consistently been getting better through the months and is now locked into being a top-10 pick in this year's draft. The Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Pelicans, Brooklyn Nets, and Toronto Raptors are deemed by league personnel as the top four landing spots for the Duke center three weeks out from the draft.

If he didn't get many in college I don't see how he's going to translate to one of the league's best. I guess it's just" this guy big, this guy must be good at blocking shots. "

Re: 2025 NBA Draft Discussion Part 8
Philly is a good spot for Khaman. Potentially less pressurized minutes and opportunity to start a lot of games with Embiid rest. Philly also doesn’t need super immediate starting lineup help other then just staying healthy. And Khaman is a Nick Nurse type of player.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

I wouldn’t use a top 3 pick on a project big that’s going to be a back up.
