I signed up to try VPN, but they need 48 hours to send me details. :(

I will report after next game.

It is not practical to use hotshield/proxy throughout the game because you would be in worse shape than watching the game on those illegal streams.

Also if you buy the international league pass, you can't login using hotshield. So that defeats that.

I guess NBA doesn't want our money. They need to change these rules on the next tv contract. What makes it is worse I'm actually paying Rogers $100+ for cable and get the games on my tv.

My stream was ever so slightly choppier than usual but otherwise 95% fine with Hotspot shield on for the entire game.

The thing though is that league pass is variable based on your connection. HD is around 3Mbs and I doubt you can get those speeds with hotshield. Even if you could it won't last long because I believe there is a limit on how much data you can transfer per month. I doubt you would get more than couple of games per month using this method.

In addition you would have to buy US league pass (not sure if it is possible with CDN credit card/address). The CDN version is international and I have being informed you can't use US IP for international account.

Just used my old user name/password from the past 4 years... and it's still on free preview, so it automatically allowed me to watch the game through my proxy IP.

I'm going to enter my credit card info next week and see if the system accepts it.

Is your 4 year old account a US account though with US address/info? Or is it International LP? I gotta find a way to get around the blackouts for Raptor games because hotspot is clearly blocked by LP now.

Dude, stop the non-sense of blaming the TV contract, its NBA (the league) who doesn't allow TV channels to host the videos online.
TV channels spend tons of money on buying equipments and camera, and pay people for live editing and etc, while the league just collects money and keep those contents.

Believe it or not, artists and recorders are not the one to blame, but the rights holder (NBA in this case).

Not true, why are you saying that?

Worse shape? Not at all. An illegal stream has maybe 1/3 of the bandwidth compared to league pass, even if using hotspot.

This is strange. I'm watching yesterday's Raps game without a proxy. No blackouts on archived games? Tonight's games and tomorrow's Raptor game is labeled blackout.

The last 4 years I've logged on to American LP using a Canadian credit card.

If it doesn't accept it this time around, I'll use my mother-in-law's US-based address and credit card.

But how does one log on to American LP? Is it just a matter of me changing my address on LP file and then I'll be logging on to American LP instead of international?

The blame lies in the fact NBA giving exclusive rights to tv partners. This is why games on espn, tnt, and local broadcasts are not available on league pass. I can understand tv perspective on trying to keep their base by forcing them to subscribe to their channel, but it makes no sense the NBA forcing me to tv to watch their games. I would be willing to paying extra but that is not option. This is essentially forcing me to illegal streams.

ranger001 wrote:Not true, why are you saying that?

1. There are two separate NBA league pass American/International. Last year Canadian customer were lumped with the American not international. The result of this is that if you buy Canadian/International league pass, you can't connect using American IP. Using American IP (HOTSHIELD) was how we got around the blackout.

2. Last year we could use hotshield or proxy to log in and once logged in, disconnected, thus using full speed of your internet connection. Now you will have to stay logged in to the proxy or hotshield (this is not even possible this year). It is expensive finding a good proxy or hotshield service that is based out of Europe. For all practical purposes it is extremely difficult to get league pass as way of watching Raptor games.

Worse shape? Not at all. An illegal stream has maybe 1/3 of the bandwidth compared to league pass, even if using hotspot.

Yeah but I'm not paying for the illegal stream. If I'm paying $100+ I expect to get full quality and not 1/3. Plus hotspot has monthly limits in data transfer and its not option unless you want to watch couple of games.

Hotspot shield gets me on the American site and then I just log in using my old username/password that I've been using for years.

Not sure if it'll let you sign up a new account using a canadian address, but existing accounts (like mine) seem unaffected.

NBA giving exclusive rights? It is the TV people bought the exclusive rights, its NOT free.
TV people asked for exclusive rights to broadcast them online, and NONE is allowed.

It is all NBA (the league) restrictions, and yes, NBA is forcing people to watch TV or in games, instead of allowing their contents to broadcast online by the TV broadcasting company.
