I'm glad he finally did something. But I'll reserve judgement on this deal until next year. Whether or not he re-signs Kawhi or manages to S&T him will determine the success or failure of this trade for me.

If Kawhi walks and we get nothing for him, it will mean Masai had traded Yak + a 1st round pick to dump Demar's contract (which he gave out); basically a higher profile Demarre Carroll situation.

If we re-sign Kawhi, this becomes the best move in franchise history.

If we sign and trade him for assets (like Ingram or Kuzma), it becomes a positive move where we dumped Demar's contract and swapped or upgraded prospects.

Who thinks Obama was there with Masai going through all the updates with him as they happened? Can't wait for the behind the scenes stuff for this trade to come out.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if when Masai managed to get Kawhi on the phone, after his intro and welcome him to Toronto and his plans for the team (and Kawhi) he said “there’s someone here who’d like to say hello”, and then Masai passed the phone to Obama.

I don’t care about politics all that much, but I can see Kawhi being more than a little impressed if Barack Obama’s on the phone congratulating him and encouraging him to give Toronto the best he can give.
