JV had actually been very productive in the playoffs when given a chance to play. In fact he carried us in a series previously.

Despite being 100 years old, he's still +3.10 in RPM, good for #27 in the league.

Jonas was +1.26, or #82 in the league.

Yeah, we improved.

There's a reason he didn't get more minutes or touches.

Agreed. Calling JV a non-factor is very short sighted, especially with how he was playing this year before getting hurt.

I can't believe people here are upset. I liked JV, but I am so **** excited to have Marc Gasol. Excellent scorer, passer, stretches the floor, great BBALL IQ. He is everything you wanted JV to become. SO wtf are people complaining about? AND NO MORE CJ MILES!!

I'm just angry we didn't get extra 3 point depth, though the buyout market is still there. We need one more piece.

I'm happy and wish JV luck.

As Hero would say, all the JV nationalists in Lithanunia are now Memphis Grizzly fans, aka half the realgm user population.

I approve of this trade 100%. The only thing Gasol has to step up now is his beard game, JV surpassed him there clean. Playoff beards start now mr. Gasol!

I'll say this if his passing goes to another level within Nurse's offense than maybe this will work out, but that's the only thing. His own personal scoring is worse than JV, see his shooting percentages and his rebounding is worse as well. This will all come down to his IQ and his passing. Above all else he better stay healthy

Are you kidding me OP.

We are about to become a much better overall defensive team.
Defense is what wins championships.

Lowry Green Kawhi Siakam Gasol interchangeably with Ibaka or OG
We should wreak havoc on teams during the playoff! Gasol also would space the floor a lot more than JV. Opening up more room for Kawhi or Lowry to operate.

Also, I think when you see us feed Gasol in the post, then him drawing a double-team, then him hitting guys like Danny Green, Kawhi, Lowry, or perhaps Siakam for open 3's. It's just something Gasol adds that JV didn't have.

Like many of us here, we're all hurt to see JV and Wright (and maybe CJ) go, but in terms of doing what it takes. This is it, we're all in.

Just saw this trade so I'm still digesting it but actual question: how is Gasol's defence? I've read that it's not the same as before but is it still good/decent? Because that might still make him better defensively than JV (don't @ me, I love JV and I absolutely wanted him to stay but it turns out I don't get a choice in the matter :p) and so maybe he might actually be able to close games out

Absolutely loved JV as a person and player, his personality was infectious, great teammate! I’m excited to see what he is going to do in a starting role in Memphis, he will have a better chance of peaking there.

That being said I’m also excited to see what Gasol can do on a team with Leonard and Lowry, it should take a lot of stress off Lowry being the only other scoring option while opening up wide open threes for Green. Like JV he is a great teammate and right now a step above. I believe the pain of this trade will only come if we don’t win it all and three years down the road when JV is an all star and Gasol is retired.

He will play much better in limited minutes and better teammates! Great trade! Hes currently at 33mpg, should come down to about 25mpg.

He will help our offense tremendously, not to mention his elite defense as well.

This is essentially why Nurse wanted Gasol on the roster. I get it.

Still hurts to lose JV for a 34 year old though. Right?

Now Gasol needs some shooters to pass to.

The reality is that JV doesn't and cannot fit in today's NBA. Marc Gasol has added the 3-pointer element to this game and even without it he's still a more polished product.

You can basically run an offense through Gasol. He facilitates well and is elite at reading and reacting to defenses. He is a HUGE upgrade over JV.

Were talking 34 rear old gasol. People are talking as if this was 3 years ago. He's shooting 44% this year. Last year he shot 42%. He's not the same layer he used to me. People get so caught up in a name that they fail to be rational.

Like others have said in order for this trade to be worth it gasol defense has to be amazing because that's really the only positive he's bringing right now over jv. If his defense is only average then it was a poittless trade. Jv averages about the same amount of boards in more than 10 less minutes. He's scores way more efficiently. Also, ibaka who has bested all season now has a dminished role? You can't run the offense through gsol anymore, that's why he's shooting less and also taking more 3s.but his 3 point shooting isn't even elite.

Also fvv is gonna hvve to play out of his mind the rest of the way. If nick nurse couldn't get the roster he had to click Idk how this is gpnna be any easier for him. Again, if this was marc gasol from at least 3 years ago I think it's great. This marc gasol though Idk. This isn't like the kawhi demar upgrade. Kawhi was bettee in every statistical categpory Essen tially and is younger. This one can go either way.

I find it odd how there was such an intense backlash for the demar trade when Tt was essentially a no brainer and yet this one people are acting like it's a similar no brainer with not as much backlash at all, when the player were getting back isn't nearly the upgrade kawhi was.

No, for this trade to be good, his defense has to be better than bad. That's a given. Since that's what he's replacing. He's capable of staying on the floor, passes better, spaces the floor better, helps better, has a higher BBIQ, plays s a better game for teammates instead of one that is centred around him.

Lol at FVV having to play out of his mind. For who.. You? Yeah of course, we already knew that. So many L's.

I don't understand why we trade players who WANT to be here. Gasol has been crap all season and is clearly declining. Meanwhile JV is producing at his normal rate in FEWER minutes.
