He's an interesting story. Kind of the "doing it different" type story that Bobby, Masai & Tolzman seem fond of. I've been following him for a year or so. He's athletic, long, strong handles and a good finisher. He's a weak shooter from outside though.

Here's a nice piece on him:

Masai has been spotted twice now scouting this guy. He'a too high in mock drafts, but you never know. I guess he thinks Avdija could be the next Luka Doncic. Kid has big stones.

I wouldn't go as so far as to say he thinks he could be the next Luka lol he could just be intrigued in him as a prospect.

Deni seems pretty skilled but it's not just that Luka is very skilled but more so his tremendous bball IQ, court awareness and ability to process information quickly. From what I've seen so far Deni seems like he can do different things offensively but I don't see the level of control over an entire offence that you seen with Luka. To me throwing out that comparison is like when people were anxious to ironically compare players to Luka's teammate Porzingis when suddenly Bender, Markannen etc were supposed to be the next KP.

I mean we'll see how Deni turns out but that's quite the assumption to make whether you believe that comparison or are just inferring that Masai might.

I didn't mean he's as good, but stylistically there are some similarities. He's probably the poor man's Luka at this stage, and in this draft everyone right now looks like a poor man's comp to a recent lottery pick. Then again, people here are comping African prospects to Giannis - the search for the next Giannis - so that's more what I was aligning with. As for Bender, Markannen, what might distinguish Avdija from them is his attitude. Neither Bender or Markannen seem to have the edge he has. Often, combativeness is competitiveness if channeled the right way,

He'll likely have seen all these guys several times over a period of years. Going on these trips is as much about rubbing elbows and gathering information than just watching a guy play. They can get all that from tape and scouts.

As for draft range, I think the draft is considered so crappy that rankings will be all over the place. It'd be an easy year to move up, if Avdija slid a bit and he was the target.

Above average for sure. But he also tends to turn over the ball a lot too. Although that's pretty common with young players.

With his first round pick, Masai will draft someone no one has heard of. People will freak out and say he passed over so and so from big NCAA school. The player in question becomes a key Raptor player within a year or two. The original draft thread is bumped and people laugh at the comments made on the first 3 pages.

A guy i like is Oturu. I think he just fits the mold of a modern C in today's game.
https://therookiewire.usatoday.com/2019/12/19/nba-draft-minnesota-golden-gophers-daniel-oturu/

His developing shot and faceup game intrigue me. Get Gasol working with this kid and we could have a gem on our hands.

I've been mentioning him for a while now but he's been putting up monster games and has moved into the top 10.

Top 10 where ? ESPN doesn’t even have him drafted and the Athletic has him 2nd round

Tyrese Haliburton probably played himself into the top 10 convo after being 14-20 in the preseason which is unfortunate cause he is someone who would be a perfect fit on this team going forward.

I would argue another guard with some size is our biggest need, but if we’re going BPA with guys that should be available around the early 20’s Paul Reed from DePaul reminds me so much of Pascal it’s crazy and he shoots a good % from the line so his touch is probably something that can continue to be developed.

I've always used them. They seem to have the 2nd round picks well scouted and the 1st round pretty good. I guess I'm loyal.

They caught on Obi Toppin quite early. Just because they are ahead on boosting Oturu, maybe they are not as bad as you think.

His game is very Serge-esque. I like.
But he's gonna be slotted in as a lottery pick on most mock drafts by seasons end.

There’s no problem with liking Oturu, and he may end up being a lottery pick.

I’m just saying claiming Oturu is a top 10 pick because they mocked him there is poor practice because of their history with these things.

They have no intel so the claim “he’s moved into the top 10” is false

Here’s their mock at around the same time last year

That needed to be placed in the spoiler tag.

Things fluctuate a lot after the tournament.

DeAndre Hunter, Tyler Herro, Jarrett Culver, PJ Washington and moved up. They had Terence Davis at #48 so that's good on them!
