Re: Raptors lose top assistant to Wolves
I think if Finch did land a HC job last offseason, the Raps were just gonna make Jama take Bjorkgren’s spot but Finch struck out and settled for Raptors bc his relationship with Nurse. Nurse knew one of Finch or Griffen would end up leaving for a HC job anyway. That’s why they send guys like Jama and Patrick down to 905 to get reps to make decisions

If it was mid-January, I would say good riddance. But there has been stretches of solid improvement in many games. Jury is still out on that and how much he had to do with it. Siakam's game has certainly improved.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

so your implying finch had a problem with the raptors, orchestrated saunders getting fired and getting him self the job. that is some jedi level manipulation there.
No - that's a stretch. I gave you an +1 for putting words in my mouth, you deserve it.
I'm wondering why Raptors didn't fight to keep Finch. He's supposed to be the orchestrator of the offense this season. Why would you let him go when you're down a couple of coaches? It's possible that they didn't mind him leaving and that could be due to friction in vision or personality which is a possibility.
Finch also could've taken the job before the season - why now? There are some unanswered questions there. However I like your story much better than mine, it's waaaaayyyy more interesting. Please do your Wandavision and tell me what I am actually saying.

I don't disagree with the coach can only do much narrative, that said I am sure these coaches are competitive, want a lead role and some (maybe finch) really believe they can make a difference, if not short term then long.

Like Finch is going to make them better cuz Saunders is just that garbage of a coach! It’ll be somewhat similar to Chicago with Donavan taking over for Boylan. It’s addition by subtraction but a coach can only do so much for an organization that doesn’t develop talent and doesn’t scout well (not that they really needed to over the last years with 3 first overall picks....)

how could he have taken the job before the season, saunders was the coach. was considered favorite for pacers job which went to nate, was in running for rockets job as well.
the simplest explanation is finch was runner up last time, and gm rosas really wanted him, but was overtunred by owner taylor to keep saunders. this time rosas got his man, and the raptors did the classy thing and not block, also i cant imagine nurse blocking his friend from taking the job midseason or not.

I just personally see this job as a dead end job. Without good player development and scouting, which the Wolves don’t, tanking is irrelevant. They could have had a team of Wiggins, Towns and Edwards and they’ll still be terrible every year. Talent and coaching can only get you so far. The final piece to a good organization is culture and supporting pieces. Finch is a good start to the culture but I think as long as the idiot at the top, Glen Taylor, is owner and in charge of personnel hirings, Wolves will forever be a franchise going nowhere. Unless they somehow get more first overall picks and land a truly generational talent like Lebron or AD or Zion, but then again, they could botch it like Towns.

The much, much, much more likely possibility is that teams usually don't stand in the way of someone getting a promotion.
Also, why would Finch pass on a HC position to be an assistant? That makes zero sense. He's never had that opportunity before and spent decades paying his dues.

Whatever, Adrian Griffen is the right hand man. Finch was apparently in charge of the offence which doesn’t look all that good sometimes.

Next man up! Next is Scariolo or Griffin. If Griffin is a large part of the defensive adjustments then he should get a shot.

Finch is a smart coach, think he'll do well in Minny, I like what he did for our offense.
I doubt we get any compensation but it be nice, expect them to promote one of the back bench coaches

Why isn't Adrian Griffin giving an opportunity though? Well, I hope he's next.

In 3 season . Well 2 and almost half season coach nurses branch is 2/29 =6.9% of the leagues head coaches.
Raptors have 3/30 =10%
Has to be the fastest tree branched coach pop or Phil didn't have it happen this fast did they?
He is BB of NBA same mentality take away your best player everytime
Congrats coach finch I was enjoying your offense -cuts and movements really wanted to see how the raps would have built on the offense in the playoffs if they make it

Re: Raptors lose top assistant to Wolves
This is some shady s* going on here all around.
Not surprised seeing as how Wolves are a dumpster fire.
Teams usually promote their own lead assistant as interim in situations like these then interview other teams' top assistants towards the end of the season, with permission, to hire for following season if they still want to go a different direction. And the permissions are usually reported by media so it's no secret. The fact that none of this happened and the hiring was done in secret behind the back smells really rotten.

Truthfully the tree begins with Rick Carlisle.

Maybe compensation to the raps will be announced tomorrow

Will there even be one? They normally don't give one to hire other team's assistants. But then I don't recall something like this happening before where teams hire away mid-season. I do hope Raptors at least petition for some kind of compensation (like a 2nd round pick) because it's too much disruption.

Scariolo is already a head coach. IDK if he even wants to be a NBA head coach.

Losing Finch is tough.
Two things we've got to hope for now maybe:
1. That our offense doesn't fall off a cliff.
2. That we have a Minny 2nd rounder forthcoming.
