The defence was impressive and it led to a lot of great chances. Fred, OG, Scottie, and Banton really stood out tonight. I thought Birch was pretty solid too despite Araujoing that dunk lol. When Pascal and Yuta are back, I think Birch needs to replace Precious in the SL; he's bigger and is more decisive with the ball. The defence is going to be even more suffocating when we're at full strength. Great to finally get a win at home!

Just wanna see more Barnes with the ball. Still too much ball pounding setup from the guards. Reversing more of the action where Fred ends with possession instead would lead to a bit more creativity maybe. Just feels like the bigs are rushing a bit too much at times.

It is weird seeing Barnes and Baton the two 6'9 guys be the ballmovers while FVV is pounding the rock to the end of the shotclock half the time. Even OG can kill possessions with over dribbling.

I do like the idea of ending the possession with Fred because it maximizes his shooting strength. I am sure they will experiment some more. It sure seemed like they were giving the ball to Scottie and just saying drive to the rim. He had a wild range of shots.

The more I watch Scottie's game be explored the more I see a cross between Antawn Jamison and Lamar Odom. Just a crazy bag of tricks in the painted area along with some showtime passing.

Much as I can't wait for Pascal to get back, he also tends to dribble out too much of the clock when he's making his penetrating moves. I hope the quicker ball-moving of Barnes and Banton makes the veterans change their habits.

There's some intentionality to that. Winning point guards know to start using up the entire shot clock when you're up by 15 points with under 10 minutes to play. One of the worst mistakes you can make is early shots in that situation. You can afford to come up empty on offensive possessions if you're also taking up 20 to 24 seconds each trip. The biggest mistake would be to force stuff early in the clock which opens up the opportunity for a faster comeback.

It's just another 'whatever fred does I'm gonna whine about it' thing.

As we're seeing that Scottie is further ahead than anticipated in development, the offense should feature some action that challenges him more. I'm sure Nurse thought it might have been the regular guard show + Siakam and a sprinkling of OG development at the outset, but he should adapt now. Test out more early forward action with the green light to probe a bit.

How in the world did Banton make so much strides in his game between summer league and the reg. Season? He's looking like a possible long term solution at our starting guard position, but still to early to say that with confidence.
