That forum is fiesty place filled with too many sharks. It's an unmoderated jungle.

No surprise that a Jazz fan started that thread to annoy the Raptors fans. Those guys have been rooting for Val to fail because Kanter will be a bust.

Im not worried about JV... he's about where I expected him to be. He's really efficient, but foul trouble has held him back. I expect that to improve in due time with experience. Once he realizes he's better than most of the guys in the NBA... watch out.

You always have to tread cautiously on that board. Too many low IQ posters and trolls.

His offensive skill set combined with his size is a lot better than most centers in the NBA. He will have trouble adjusting to the athleticism of the NBA. I really doubt he's played a guy like McGee before that itself will be a huge adjustment.

after watching the usa vs lithuania i have come to the conclusion that jonas floor is dwight and ceiling is sabonis

mo but seriously he looked impressive in the minutes he played because of some of the intagibles that he brings on offense. for example every time lithuania ran the pick and roll, the usa roster would collapse in the middle leaving the outside shooters wide open

Utah fan huh? I just realized that Turkey wasn't even in the tournament. May have to drop a few Kanter disses.

Well, its not as if Jonas is doing anything remarkable to sway such opinions. We need him to be the best player on this team if you want playoffs. I just hope this team goes about developing him the right way vs. jerking him around with inconsistent PT or forcing him minutes over other deserving players (Davis or Amir, for instance).

We should look at him as a long-term work in progress, which is why I've always been against the idea of a rushed rebuild. We're many pieces away and we need our young players to develop before we reach that point of being competitive.

Part of it is he's raw in some areas, part of it is that he's been a horrible fit on his national team.

Defensively he's raw and needs to control his body better guarding guys. And he still needs to get stronger. This upcoming year he might be able to stay on the floor 20-25 mins tops even if we did want to play him more.

Offensively he doesn't really have one on one shot creation ability..he creates his own shot in a sense in that he rolls so well and gives a great target, but if the passing/PG play is not there (clearly it's not on the national team), he's not going to do nearly as well.

So on offense I expect him to look much, much better at the next level, and defense is what's going to hold back his minutes. But at least he has a high motor and is physically capable of defending (strength aside for now)..it's a matter of how quickly he takes to coaching and instruction.

We don't need him to be the best player on this team to make the playoffs. We don't need anything from him offensively, that's just a bonus. We need him to grab boards and act as a defensive presence down low. If he does that and stays out of foul trouble for majority of the year, he's done his job.

There really aren't any highlights to be making a highlight video. The guy had 4 points and 1 rebound

That's the stupid thinking of the current Lithuanian NT coach Kemzura, and the former Jonas' coach in Lietuvos Rytas that has killed so much of his confidence. I hope Raptors don't think this way. Jonas needs to be energized for great defense by offense opportunities. He needs to feel the team working for him to score so he can defend and create opportunities for the others. At this point it is crucial for his success, as the team depends on his success quite a bit, and there is some time to be taken to undo the wrongdoings of those two coaches. The thinking "we want him to do the hard work, so we can score" is crap.

He will get opportunities offensively. What I said was that he doesn't have to contribute a lot next season. People expecting him to average 15 points is sorely mistaken. He will get points off put backs on rebounds, layups/dunks on rolls to rim, and scoring from the free throw line - it's just not going to be a lot. The main focus is on the defensive end and going back to my point, this will help us make the playoffs.

btw the results oriented reactions of this board are so predictable, half are blaming the coach, other half know he's going to be a project etc. etc. Mustafa trying hard not to declare him a complete bust ;).

Just watched the 1st quarter again. He definitely looks to have a wider frame than Chandler (not as muscular though), wingspan looks much longer & he's possibly taller than Tyson too.

If at minimum he can eventually be a longer version of Chandler, we'll be in good shape. Anything more & we'll be damn lucky.

We just need him to develop more quickly than Tyson did.

That's what also impressed me. His size compared to Chandler.

Chandler is also a BEAST. I've probably been to ~20? NBA games in person, and he was the most impressive person physically. Seemed far bigger than players like Hawes/Pachulia/D.Jordan/Andrea/Mozgov etc. Dude is BIG

After Val got elbowed in the throat, I didnt see him on the floor again.

Probably a wise decision.
What would Pop do?
