He’s definitely not untouchable but he’s not been too bad in fairness. 2 assists and 2 steals in 8 minutes. Hasn’t taken any shots so far though

Ivey is disastrous on defense, and his shot is broken.

Neither is uncommon for 21 year old guards.

Long-term, the best possible fit around Scottie is probably 2 guards, an SF and a center. Right now we have Quickley as a guard and let's say Barrett at the 3. Adding another PF like Ausar (can't shoot so he's a 4 and might need to play with a stretch 5 which we don't really have unless you think Jontay is a future starter) or Jarace Walker seems like it might re-create the problems we just got halfway out of with the IQ trade.

If you told me Ivey becomes a DeJounte Murray level player I wouldn't be surprised, and that sort of player makes sense for us.

Ausar is 6'6 and not a pf, he's some kind of a tweener between the 2 and the 3. Barnes has to play the 4, Walker/Thompson/defensive wing stopper at the 3, Barrett is a 2 and IQ the PG. Ivey has no place in this system. Raptors defense is nonexistent at this point.

A Dejounte Murray player like makes no sense and never made any sense.

Big needs are at the wing and big (again).

I think if you can't shoot or play PG you're a 4 these days, and it's hard to see how an Ausar-Poeltl 4/5 lineup could score enough, though if we get Isaiah Stewart - who can shoot - in the deal, and can move Boucher with Trent and a pick for a guard, I like this lineup okay:

Poeltl/Stewart
Barnes/Ausar
Barrett/Dick
SG/IQ
IQ/Schroeder

and probably draft a perimeter guy with #31.

So I'd say Ausar makes some sense if we buy low on Lavine or Murray or get really crazy and send a ton of picks for Donovan Mitchell (if he wants to be here and extend) or another SG (buy really low on Poole by giving up nothing but Trent and Thad Young?) or somehow snag Herro.

But it would be tough to start Ausar and Poeltl, I think.

If It was this deal or nothing I’d probably make the deal. Hield, nembhard, smith and FRP. Would like to get nesmith too but siakams camps statements seem to be hurting his value.

Upon further consideration, I’m not in favour of trading for projects that are still 2 years away from being 2 years away.


I’d rather we trade for more established players with upside, similar to RJ and Quickley.

In that case, I’d look to target Nesmith on the Pacers and Dort on the Thunder.
