rockets have like 10 guys at the 3/4, 3 centres and 3 small pg’s. i hope a few of the elite shooting guards notice this and light them up this season. realistically amen gets those assignments but it’s a weird roster

You're a fan of the Raptors and talking about weird rosters? We had 1 small PG, no Center and 10 3/4s for years lol.

Seriously though, Amen covers all their issues defensively while Durant/Jabari provide more than enough shooting from the SF/PF spots to cover up those concerns.

I do agree that I thought they would have tried to get a backup 3 and D SG. They could have used Whitmore to do that but gave him away for cents on the dollar.

Don’t you have to be considered a good 3pt shooter and defensive player to be considered a 3+D player? Not to mention 3+D players are generally low usage players who play off ball. Whitmore has been a high usage player so far in his career and needs the ball in his hands. He will be perfect in Washington but would be horrible if he was asked to be a 3+D player . Lol.

I meant they could have used Whitmore to trade for that type of player. They got Finney Smith who can provide the 3 and D skillset from the 3/4 spots but just getting some backcourt depth would have been nice.

Not sure why they felt the need to get 3 Centers unless they believe they can get Giannis for Sengun + stuff so they wanted to be covered Centers wise after a trade. Makes no sense for the Rockets and Capella otherwise tbh.

Scottie was giving him high praises, so I do think there is merit to bringing him back for player development.

That said, I do wonder why the rush and why not bring him back as an assistant coach so he doesn't count towards the cap. I know a player makes more than an assistant coach but I don't think people were lining up to sign him as a player.

My hope is this means the FO knows they're not done with moves and more trades will be done to balance out the roster (ex. backup center, Mamu may more of a 4), and to move under the tax. Hopefully it's not just the latter by burning a SRP.

Interesting that RJ apparently can't be traded without giving up picks but he's pretty much better than Jalen Green in every way who got traded for KD

I value this boards overall opinion on RJ Barrett about as much as I valued my time last month on jury duty - not one bit!

It’s weird af how we’re so sour on a high character high talent hometown kid who loves everything about being a Raptor. It sickens me.

I am with you. There isnt a sub on the roster that can replace him.

Its all about money - unfortunately he gets paid a lot of money to be a wing when we have a lot of other cheaper wings right behind him. If RJ was paid less, he would be a great fit (especially if he doesn't mind coming off the bench if needed).

On the other side, I am not paying the Raptors' salary so I don't really care how much our roster costs. IMO the tax doesn't really affect roster moves until we reach the first apron. Even if we end up above the tax line but below the 1st apron, that's not my money to pay out (or to lose in terms of those tax payments teams get for being under the tax).

A veteran on the players side in the players locker room isn't the same as an assistant coach. A veteran is in the players only meeting, a vet is there day to day with the fellas, that cost something & is valuable to an organization and not so much to the naked eye fan who values the spreadsheets for some odd reason.

-We are not limited in any direction in terms of financials or flexibility.
-Toronto has never operated as a cap space team & never will. Fans tend to forget or disregard those points

This isn't so much that we should free up cap space to sign people in FA, but rather why make a move so soon that puts us into the tax which we all feel pretty confident they will try to find a way to get out of later.
