If Barnes can be Ben Simmons with a decent and willing jumper that’s an absolute victory.

That would be a superstar.

If Barnes hit his 3s last game, he'd have 20 point 8 assist game.
If he develops a decently reliable jumper in the next few years, his boxscore numbers will jump off the page.

Watching Scottie reminds me of how T-Mac looked in his rookie seasons before he really broke out. You can just tell he is a rising star and it's just a matter of time before he develops into something really special.
His court instincts, his handles, his defence, his ability to score around the rim, his willingness to take his improving jumper. It's crazy to think that we actually drafted the better point guard IMO between he and Suggs.
Worth the wait.

That's the thing that isn't at all surprising. Last year in college, Barnes had a higher assist rate and a better assist to turnover ratio than either Suggs or Cade. Not sure why people suddenly expected them to become better playmakers for others at the NBA level than Scottie.
Game, blouses.

Ben Simmons with a jumper is LeBron James

not to mention looks like like garbage for a lead/franchise point guard right now. he's not blowing by anyone - no elite first step, has no jump shot.
maybe the Raps were right in picking Barnes over Suggs based on 2 workouts, apparently, where he couldn't shoot the ball (rumours on 2 bad workouts). that is just bad. Barnes developing a better jump shot than Suggs could be a possiblity knowing the Raptors development system vs Orlando's.

The defense is there, the court vision/passing,the athleticism, the length, the huge hands, the energy, the hustle, the passion all that's missing is the shot but he will get there because that's the easiest aspect to develop. This kid has the potential to be a triple double threat every night, if he gets a consistent jumper then th sky's the limit on how great he can really be.

I know guys like Simmons, Giannis, Tatum, Paul George, and others have grown an inch or more when in the league
I think Scottie could technically reach 6’9” or 6’10” in a year
He's already 6'8.5 with shoes, he could conceivably still grow, who knows.

He's not as fluid as mcgrady so he won't get to that type of game. He's something like Draymond if Draymond was an actual wing player.
What bodes well for his scoring output is that he has those foul line and in jumpers n floater game that he can get to. Draymond doesn't have that. The occasional 3 to keep the defenses honest is what will move his trajectory

Draymond also does not have the kind of handles that Barnes is developing, which bodes extremely well for his ability to just isolate and get a bucket every so often - even if that's never going to be his primary role.
I do see the Draymond comparison but when you consider that he will likely become a better shooter eventually, he is far more athletic and he handles the ball better already, I think the comparison is underrating Barnes' potential somewhat.

If he pans out he's the successor to Lowry (and Gasol) in the most important ways. A guy who makes the players around him better offensively, and also through intangibles. We didn't have any of that once Lowry left and now it may already be covered.
He's got a big personality like Lowry, which has it's pros and cons, but at least you've got some continuity in the locker room.

If Nurse continues to trust him and he starts or plays at least 24mpg off the bench. I wouldn't be surprised if Barnes can get there this season with his per 36 averages.
But Barnes will have to gain confidence in his scoring within 15 feet to get there.

I'm getting more of a rookie Lamar Odom vibe from him.
L.Odom: 16.6pts (44%/35%/71%) 7.8rb, 4.5ast, 1.2st, 1.5bk.
Lamar in this era of position less basketball and this amount of spacing would of easily been a top 15 player.

On offence, Stats wise, first year he can be Boris Diaw's first year in Phoenix.
Which is also similar to Ben Simmons last year.

He already looks like Draymond lite. If he can figure out how to shoot and create for himself he’s gonna be a helluva player.

Valanciunas
Van Vleet

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

It's not like nobody noticed Odom's rare blend of size, handles and playmaking back then. He had all the talent in the world, but you're not going to be a top-15 player in any era without mental toughness and a serious work ethic - and he didn't have those.

MU nailed it so far. Barnes looks good, Suggs looks awful. Mobley looks great and that's the guy he wanted to trade up for.
