No.

Every basketball fan in Canada crowning him as the savior is probably more pressure then anything else lol

It all depends on people expectations, but there should be no pressure on him because he was untouchable in trade talks. Fans have unrealistic expectations where they expect every player to improve, but that's just not reality.
Scottie is 21 and will improve, but no one knows by how much and I hope people just enjoy the journey.

I gotta be honest, glad Masai and the brain trust are in charge and not me because I didn't see anything special in these highlights and some of the other pre-draft footage. Ugly-ass jumper, average hops, really good frame for his age but otherwise not much that really stood out athletically.

He's probably 15 in the highlight mix above, keep in mind. For 15, at that height/frame, his body control and agility look really good. He didn't have the kind of hops that Zion or Vince had at that age, but nobody does. Probably athletically more comparable to a Paul Pierce or Kawhi Leonard when they were at that age. Scottie's standing reach is also 5 inches higher than Zion's, so that helps compensate.

Scottie's legs are twice as thick as the guy defending him.

that may be called as a carry in an NBA game, no? At the 3 second mark his hand is basically under the ball. But it's the NBA, so perhaps not. Although a rookie may be called on it and not a star player.

Calling a carry in today's NBA? That's funny.

yeah the NBA is all about perception, show and stars. When Barnes is a star he will get away with so much as will the Raptors.

i didn't see Nurse talk too much about Barnes lately, make me think, he believes Precious is going to take the biggest leap so far

Didn’t you also say Barnes might disappoint people this year? At least your agenda is consistent

ya i'm team pessimistic when it comes to year 2 Barnes jump
But more than happy to be proven wrong

That said, his jumper looks similar to where Pascal was going into year 4 (2019).
Year 4 Pascal and Year 2 Barnes, had a jumper where there feet was pretty much grounded (i mentioned at that time it was a low-release point)
So I think Barnes will continue to flash more use of the jumper, but it won't be a consistent weapon in year 2.

So i'm not sure if Barnes will be able to rely on the jumper consistently during the game

My only fear of a Precious emergence is he starts taking away possessions from Scottie. Which I feel like he did this past year. There were a ton of times throughout the season where I thought he should have given the ball back to Scottie to create or iso. Instead he would force it. Good for his development but for a naturally passive Scottie who oozes top ten potential I feel like we need to give him the rock over Precious, Trent, FVV wither he likes it or not.

If scottie shows he's ready to take the next step, then the pecking order should be set clear

I thought all the Scottie haters had been converted after the first summer league game last year. But I guess there are still some stragglers.

Attacking the gaps is a good sign for his size. Paul George-esque

More so want to see him pull up off those screens, this is the time to try and fail.

Return to Toronto Raptors
