Interesting that they started Wiggins and Saric instead of Kuminga. I’m probably over analyzing it but neither have any business starting and they’re presumably trying to move both at the deadline.

I’d pass on Wiggins unless GSW empties the clip; Kuminga + Moody + Future first(s). If they say no it’s fine you just go to Sacramento Indiana Detroit or Atlanta.

They benched Kuminga because Draymond came back, it has nothing to do with Wiggins (who I agree is not a starter playing as bad as he has).

Why did they bench green?

That is the one thing I believe the Raptors are looking for in a trade: a POA defender. Doing so would allow Barnes to play exactly the role you have described.

I believe any team with a POA defender is a legit contender to get Siakam. Now adding a third team would change everything but looking at teams rumored to be making moves, that gives you:

Indiana: Nesmith
Atlanta: Hunter
Golden State: Kuminga
Detroit: Thompson
Dallas: (theoretically) Green or Omax (neither has shown it yet)

Need to move Siakam asap.

I hope we can get someone back like Dort who can be a POA defender so Barnes doesn't have to waste energy doing it.

I get waiting for the best haul but it makes for that awkward period where the coaches, teammates, and the man himself all know he won't be on this team soon.

lol yeah I mean we saw it with OG probably had his worst defensive stretch when the writing was on the wall for a trade. Pascal has had a solid season but we need some certainty so we can establish role definition and build chemistry going forward.

So who comes off the bench? Surely not IQ or RJ

Starting Iq and Murray in the backcourt? Too small. RJ is too short at 6’6 to play SF

at worst it would be temporary until we trade Murray somewhere else as a very valuable talent in the league

It sucks but really the season is more or less lost. We are somewhere between play-in or draft pick; most likely neither. Key is to get the most out of a Pascal trade; hopefully add at least one young stud to our core of Scottie, IQ and RJ, and let them develop together for the rest id the season.

I’ve seen some nice connections from Barnes to RJ, not sure what others are seeing when they’re playing together.

Only thing I’m noticing is that Barnes likes to get his teammates going rather than look for his own especially at the start of games.

You keep saying that despite the fact he has very limited suitors, only 2 (LAL & NYK) & they have some of the least desirable pieces out there.

Too small? IQ is 6’3” and Murray is 6’5”. They both have a +5” wingspan and what they lack in strength or weight they make up for in speed.

I think you’d start Hunter at SF because of his size and on-ball defence. RJ comes off the bench.

Barrett may not like the “demotion” but he’d be pretty good as your 6th man. He is showing he can play off-ball, which he would continue to do with the starters when he first enters the game, and with the second unit he can handle the ball more as a primary scoring option. He’s not great in that role against starters but he’d have an advantage against opposing bench players.

Ausar has a higher ceiling than OG. He'd be a key get for the long-term.

There has been zero grudge and you can see it. Barrett will always be a guy who takes the ball downhill as soon as he gets it. That's just his game and it's fine - it works and complements this team well. The issue is more that we use Barnes too much off ball and focusing more on defense. He's an on ball player and should be exerting more energy on offense than defense. Hopefully we start featuring him more. This team looks at its best when Barnes is pushing the tempo for them and trying to score. But Masai will need to get a point of attack defender this deadline to replace some of what OG gave.

I'd be flipping DJM.

IQ
RJ
Hunter
Scottie
Poeltl

That is a nice starting line up. Very balanced. The idea would be Scottie and IQ would take steps forward. RJ would continue to be efficient as a Raptor. Hunter is your 3 and D.

I like that.
