Not watching this game, but keep this in mind. Even Aaron Gray gets touches with the Raptors. He even gets the odd mid range look, and isn't sure what to do with it. I'd be surprised if Jonas doesn't get 10 fga per game, even if Gary Forbes is our starting point guard. Also keep in mind that assists don't count for much in getting a European guard a new contract. But nba assists are a whole different matter. Guards like Jose make a living off assists and A/TO ratio.

Rytas plan to go zone is actually working out pretty well. JV had a nice block while roaming in the middle.

Popovich's douchiness has let Rytas back in the door. Four bad plays in a row after that deep three.

I suppose no. He's not getting any touches and on the defensive end he has to take care of Zalgiris guards penetrating into the lane when Rytas guards fail to defend him. Thus Valanciunas has to leave his man wide open and Zalgiris is smart enough team to take advantage of it.

Is there any site out there that I could see Valanciuanas USG% rate ? I think it has too be very low - the only way he gets the ball is off of broken plays.

Maybe Jonas V is bored of the inferior competition? I bet he will take it the to the next level during the Olympics

JV with a very nice block. He has been very nice on the defensive end for his team.

No. He's not playing against inferior competition.

For all the chucking that Popovich does he sometimes manages to nail some clutch 3 pointers.

He's still very skinny but you can't expect him to bulk up much during a season its very hard to do so, bulking up is something you work on during the offseason. And don't expect him to bulk up much this offseason since he has the olympics soon after his season is done.

Over. Val 8 and 10. Good game in a losing cause. This was a blowout until Popovich went for that ego-three, but Zalgris just has way more talent.

I don't watch a lot of these games - I try to catch the highlights when I can.

But I do wonder why it is that Jonas doesn't get more touches in the offense.

His statline for today's game - 8 points on 3-5 shooting, 10 boards, 2 blocks and 2 steals - is right about on par for his season as a whole. He shoots a great percentage, but doesn't get a lot of touches - and he defends well.

Is it possible that since the team knows he is gone next year, they are not making him an integral part of the offense?

Or is he just not polished enough to get the looks in the post?

No its more like playing with idiots or ball hogs. Babrauskas when drives, he drives head down not looking at his teammates at all, Rice will always shoot over two defenders hands rather than pass the ball up. Rasic is a SG, passing comes really tough - he always hesitates before passing thus his passing game is useless and teammates have to always play iso. Seibutis always hogs the ball and passes up only when the time is down to 4-5 seconds left.

With backcourt like that it is really tough getting more looks.

10 FGA per 36 as a rookie maybe. 10 FGA a game with Ed/Amir minutes means he's taking as many shots per 36 as Bargnani and Demar and is 2x the rate of Ed and Amir last season, which won't happen his rookie year

Wider court, more wide open game and a better teammates will help him a lot. Current Rytas' ball and Jonas' off ball movement is all messed up.

And there is no way Jonas gets 10 FGAs.

11/12 season FGAs :

Bargnani 15.6
DeRozan 14.3
Barbosa 10.8
Calderon 9

Those are the leaders. Amir averages 5.3 in 24 minutes, Ed everages 5.08 in 23. I think at best... Jonas gets 7 attempts. Unless he really explodes, which is unlikely. I stay pessimistic, and think his rookie impact will be very small.
