A loss tomorrow and the Raptors would be 1/2 game out of the #4 pick slot!!! :o

The game is in Tampa so travel won’t be much of an issue but yeah it’s still a back to back so we need to be extra tanky. Hopefully with GSW losing today they’ll be extra motivated to win since they’re in a pretty tight battle for the playoffs

Won’t be enough for Collins or Holmes or any decent player, just some guy around 10 mil, and for a team as mediocre as ours, what’s the point? We will sign GTJ and be over the cap and maybe add some bench piece at best.

This is our core but hopefully a good player can be added via the draft.
The Raps can create about 25 mill in cap space in the offseason.

They won't sign GTJ until the cap space is used. GTJ in no way effects their flexibility other than having a 2 mill cap hold.

Except if someone else signs GTJ to a big offer sheet (as a RFA), we only have seven days to match if we want to retain GTJ. Our flexibility will be gone in 7 days after such an event.

its worse than that. if he signs an offer sheet, that dollar amount is put onto our cap until we match or don't match.

Did you miss the memo that Trent has a tiny cap hold and therefore opens up our cap space - enabling us to spend up to the cap based on that cap hold, and then go well above the cap in order to sign him?

Apparently he did. But I've recently been informed that if if Trent meets certain mileposts in minutes (which he will), his cap hold is actually going to be around ~5 mill. And if we keep tanking, as everyone here and obviously Masai/Bobby want to, the 4-6 draft pick will also be around the same amount. So if Raps kick Boucher to the curb, we'll only have around 20 mill in cap space. If that's enough to bring in Holmes or Collins, then fine. Otherwise, it would be best to use up all our cap space (maybe even re-sign Kyle, or do an S&T with him) and then use the MLE to sign a serviceable big.

Question about this....does this minutes/starter feature impact salary? Or just cap hold? Because if it's only the cap hold without salary implications....why wouldn't Trent agree to sit?

Because Trent's a free agent, albeit a RFA. His motivation should be to inspire a team with lots of cap space - let's say the Knicks - to make a ridiculous offer that Raps would have to think about before matching.

I mean, the Raps could still sit him, but that's not conducive to good relations with players, or their agents.

I always feel like I'm in some bizarro world when people say things like trap game, or must lose, hoping for a Raptors loss. 8-)

Nothing bizzaro about wanting to add a great young talent to the team.

That's interesting. Masai could still talk to his agent and stress that signing any offer sheet puts the cap hold in jeopardy. Players and agents like cap holds. Everyone wins with cap holds...just increases the pot. I doubt Trent and his agent play along with a team out to sabotage his cap hold. Gotta remember....cap holds give players more leverage in bargaining and allow GM's to pay above market value.

Are you sure about this? Do you have a source? I dont think his caphold automatically increases when GTJ signs offer sheet. Only when we match.

Stupid GSW. They should have just traded us Minny's pick and their future 1st and filler for Siakim.

Just the way he handed FVV and Siakim their contracts, I can see Masai go above market value for Trent.

It's now 2 days to match, not 7.. but I don't believe this is true. In the 2 days prior to matching, the cap hold should still be their qualifying offer. Which in Trent Jr's case should be about $4.7M (equivalent of the 2017's 2021 draft pick's qualifying offer) as most likely Trent meets the requirements for the boost in his QO (games played as starter or minutes played which will also be adjusted to a 72 game schedule).

Also if the offer sheet comes during the moratorium (which is about 5 days), we have 2 days until after the moratorium ends to match. And the team that signs the offer sheet will have that player's new salary as their cap hold. So their own free agency plans can be halted while they wait to see if the contract matches. This is usually why most RFA offer sheets come in at the tail end of free agency and not the beginning. I think we are okay with Trent.

How are they your boys when the instigators of this pathetic thread hate on our team constantly?

The thing that's interesting about TwO is that they act like the 2019/2020 season happened 10 years ago. Team tank lives in the moment like a house pet, they don't bother connecting the dots on much and view everything in a vacuum.

Yeah I guess I'll finally jump on the tank, at this point why not lol. Go ahead and surprise me Raps but unless we can get a run to get us into the 6th seed I'd rather take the pick and make a big trade, maybe re-sign Lowry for one more year, see what happens, maybe someone on the teams friends with Beal? lol

A bad move or decision is a bad move whether you won a championship yesterday or a decade ago.

You don’t stop being a GM or President and don’t stop getting paid as such. If you do great for your investors, they don’t say, well you did great last year so you get a pass.

There’s this misappropriation between expecting a title team in two seasons as you’ve alluded too (poorly at that with conjecture juxtaposed with veiled anger) and being critical of management mistakes.

The connecting of the dots was seen a lot more by TWO as they said this group isn’t as special as others would like you to believe.

When they went on a 15-7 run, everyone was puffing their chest with I told you sos, but since then it’s TB, injuries and COVID excuses that have plagued most teams. We were in TB when we went 15-7 no?

This team isn’t that good. The dots were connected rightly so a long time ago but some are seeing cross.

Getting defensive rebounds helps finish off the defensive possession and all the hard work of running around chasing players off the 3pt line. This is a a simple fix that will be addressed again in the off-season. Masai too a 1st step to balance the roster by moving on from Thomas and TD, that weren't the greatest defenders and didn't help with rebounding.
