A loss tomorrow and the Raptors would be 1/2 game out of the #4 pick slot!!!

Won’t be enough for Collins or Holmes or any decent player, just some guy around 10 mil, and for a team as mediocre as ours, what’s the point? We will sign GTJ and be over the cap and maybe add some bench piece at best.
This is our core but hopefully a good player can be added via the draft.
They won't sign GTJ until the cap space is used. GTJ in no way effects their flexibility other than having a 2 mill cap hold.
Except if someone else signs GTJ to a big offer sheet (as a RFA), we only have seven days to match if we want to retain GTJ. Our flexibility will be gone in 7 days after such an event.

Did you miss the memo that Trent has a tiny cap hold and therefore opens up our cap space - enabling us to spend up to the cap based on that cap hold, and then go well above the cap in order to sign him?
Apparently he did. But I've recently been informed that if if Trent meets certain mileposts in minutes (which he will), his cap hold is actually going to be around ~5 mill. And if we keep tanking, as everyone here and obviously Masai/Bobby want to, the 4-6 draft pick will also be around the same amount. So if Raps kick Boucher to the curb, we'll only have around 20 mill in cap space. If that's enough to bring in Holmes or Collins, then fine. Otherwise, it would be best to use up all our cap space (maybe even re-sign Kyle, or do an S&T with him) and then use the MLE to sign a serviceable big.
Question about this....does this minutes/starter feature impact salary? Or just cap hold? Because if it's only the cap hold without salary implications....why wouldn't Trent agree to sit?

I always feel like I'm in some bizarro world when people say things like trap game, or must lose, hoping for a Raptors loss.

its worse than that. if he signs an offer sheet, that dollar amount is put onto our cap until we match or don't match.
Are you sure about this? Do you have a source? I dont think his caphold automatically increases when GTJ signs offer sheet. Only when we match.AkelaLoneWolf wrote:DelAbbot wrote:OakleyDokely wrote:The Raps can create about 25 mill in cap space in the offseason.

The game is in Tampa so travel won’t be much of an issue but yeah it’s still a back to back so we need to be extra tanky. Hopefully with GSW losing today they’ll be extra motivated to win since they’re in a pretty tight battle for the playoffs

That's interesting. Masai could still talk to his agent and stress that signing any offer sheet puts the cap hold in jeopardy. Players and agents like cap holds. Everyone wins with cap holds...just increases the pot. I doubt Trent and his agent play along with a team out to sabotage his cap hold. Gotta remember....cap holds give players more leverage in bargaining and allow GM's to pay above market value.

The thing that's interesting about TwO is that they act like the 2019/2020 season happened 10 years ago. Team tank lives in the moment like a house pet, they don't bother connecting the dots on much and view everything in a vacuum.
