Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 6
That would just screw everything up for us if MKG went back to Kentucky. There's only 3 or 4 wing players to choose from in this draft.

I think he more Kwame Brown than anything....
Draft him with right pick and you are happy because he is serviceable player with some decent skills. Draft him too high and he gets bust label.

Personally I don't have faith in any of the wings being able to score reliably against a set nba defence. I hold out hope that Lamb could, simply because UCONN's offense is a mess but I wouldn't bet on any of themm right now.
I don't see a reason why Barnes would have that much trouble scoring.
- He can catch/shoot
- Run him off curls
- Put him in the post
- He knows how to create space in the midrange and he's big enough that he'll do the same in the L
Really, Barnes can do quite a bit on offense and that jumper of his is going to make his life much easier. The only situation I wouldn't put him in right now is ISO on the perimeter expecting him to break down the defense and score. He can do it to a certain extent with his pull up jumper or possibly getting to the line but that won't be his forte.
I dunno maybe I just haven't seen him play in a while, but I'm not all that impressed with any of the wing prospects ability to score major buckets. Can Barnes be an effective #2 guy or a pseudo #1 guy, sure, I just think he lacks the quick first step required to separate from his man in our half court offense. Mind you I don't think Lamb will fare much better if at all, but its just a nagging doubt in my mind.
The fact that neither have been creating much for their teammates doesn't help ease my mind either, and should be a pressing concern for everyone in this thread as our dependence on Jose/Jerryd will increase should we remove JJ from the starting lineup.

I think Lamb can do a better job at creating for others, he has that iso ability so it helps spread out the floor, so its more likely he'll draw defenders so he can dribble drive and kick it to corners for open 3s or lob for big men etc. Barnes has that scorer mentality, his handles are tight enough but not point-forward type of handles enough to help find teammates, everytime I see Barnes, he looks to score basically. Kinda like Durant in a sense that Durant looks for his shots rather than find guys open.

Usually when a guy with rare combination of strength, skill and size, you should excel easily but he rarely use it to his advantage, his length and strength can allow him to do whatever he wants, he is not entirely raw, he has the size and the strength to dominate. One, his physical advantage is the thing that shouldn't deem him raw, he has those rare physical combination and should excel at that in face-up situations (drop step to the lane and jump hook or go up strong etc) but he doesn't like contact that's what smh, a big man who's afraid of contact.
Dunking is part of his game but he has ability to score in low post, his strength dominance is clearly visible, positioning should be easy for him, gather yourself in the post to jump hook or perform up and under or shot fakes to shake off defenders, he's got all the tools to do that, he just doesn't do them. I can give him reasons for not doing all those cos its a freshman season, but some of the basics (not offensively) such as box out and setting solid pick and pop, pick and roll, he doesn't do them.
This. Most big man with the tools to dominate - dominate. He hasn't. Right now what's different between him and Fab Melo? He's bigger he should be dominating him but they're last two meeting were fairly close with Melo's team winning both times. Drummond is buyer beware and I can't see how he cannot drop. He's not Robert Swift though.

ya he will definitely be a lead guard. I'm fairly certain he will eventually average more than 20 points per game. He will be a four year player on great teams, so he will have the chance to shine in his later years opposed to starting as a freshman. Moreover, Sean Miller is one of the best at developing talent, so that should be very beneficial for his game.

Does Andre Drummond seem like Chris Bosh inside Dwight Howard's body to anyone else?

Gabe York is a phenomenal scorer and will have a great college career. However, I don't imagine he will play that big of a role next year. In addition to York, Arizona is bringing in three top 10 recruits. Moreover, infront of York is Nick Johnson, someone who is more talented and a sophomore.
Arizona will likely be a top 5 team next year with a lineup of:
Josiah Turner / Jordin Mayes
Nick Johnson / Kevin Parrom / Gabe York / Amedeo Della Valle (likely)
Solomon Hill / Kevin Parrom / Brandon Ashley
Bradon Ashley / Grant Jerrett / Angelo Chol
Kaleb Tarczeski / Grant Jerett /
I agree that Arizona should be really good next year. Not sure if they start top 5, but they will be very close if not in at the start of the season. Not sure if Zona will be 1/2 seeds like the recent Kentucky teams. or more like a three seed like UNC was in 2011 that took some time to develop.
Kentucky, UNC, Syracuse (depending on departures) will be in. Michigan should be highly rated
1. Why did you become an Arizona fan? Not that there is anything wrong with that, just wondering why you became a fan of them.
2, What is the sense in Arizona for the 2011 tourney? Do fans think they deserve to get in, or they realize that its a toss up on the bubble? Will the fanbase in general think it got shafted if it did miss? I have them in as of right now,

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 6
If Andre Drummond is going to be a n all- star, its going to have to be a Dwight Howard type game. And while he has the tools and body for that to perhaps a degree... he does not have the mentality for it at all.
I know people love pissing on Chris Bosh, but he could shoot, and he also drove to the basket alot creating contact. And he also had drive and passion which people here will say he didn't of course. I can't see any of those skills or traits in Drummond.

MKG seems like the type of team guy that would say that so that he is not a distraction. Many guys have done the same in the past. I would say less than 20% have actually stayed.

Even still minus a shot....
On a more serious note, both UConn and Raps have a 7pm start time gona be watching both. Hope Lamb is gona show some allstar potential tonight, I've kind of soured on all the prospects a bit.

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 6
I watched that little somewhat unathletic midget Keaton Page of Oklahoma St go off for about 30 last night against Kansas and he has to work so hard to get his shots off, and has to take all opportunities that are present to try to score. It was fun to watch, but at the same time it adds to ny frustration about players like Lamb. Sure Page's team run some plays for him -- moreso then Lamb. But anytime there was a little crease Page was ready to exploit -- always, always looking, Lamb just gets the ball in motion and usually has no intention of looking to create even the opportunity is there.

Typically Lamb gets the ball while stationary and as a result of some uninspired passing along the three point line. Your point still stands though, Lamb rarely looks to attack and seems passive, there's only so much I can blame on his crappy team.

LOL that's cold. I was just looking at his highlights and he seemed to have that Chris Bosh personality. I know you hate him, but he's got a chance if his team gets him a proper big man coach.
