The Landry Fields disaster of a signing was the last straw, and i posted back in the summer that he should be fired immediately after the signing. Some posters took offence to that suggestion and started insulting me and said give Fields a chance since he can be our "glue guy". I know he is injured, but that signing was ridiculous since the Knicks were only offering him a two year deal at 3 M a year. 7 years is enough time. Him and his yes men all need to be terminated at the end of the year. Casey and the entire coaching staff can go to. Had enough of his pathetic rotations.

Think about what you wrote.

Then think about what his issues were on the court, and how that injury could have impacted his game.

Then think about things like.. Where he was on the court when the ball was not in his hands. Think about his positioning on defence.

Then think about the length of the contract... If he is really really bad, in year three he is a nice sized expiring contract.

Now, tell me how do you feel after thinking about each of these for a few moments. Don't knee jerk it, think it through considering as many factors and both sides of the situation, then..and only then come to a conclusion.

And while he's doing that, why don't you think about this?

Really think that page through. The circumstances. The availability. The alternative. The production. The defence. The contract. And only then come to a conclusion as to which is the smarter way to run a franchise.

Also, there was a player called Brandon Rush available. Marvin Williams was traded for Devin Harris (expiring contract). Raps had an expiring (Jose). Dorell Wright got traded for some European scrub that will never play in the NBA.

These small forwards were available this offseason via free agency:

Gerald Green
Josh Childress
Gerald Wallace
Josh Howard
Tracy McGrady
Brandon Rush
Jeff Green
Ronnie Brewer
DeShawn Stevenson
Rashard Lewis
Martell Webster
Alonzo Gee
Andrei Kirilenko
Nicolas Batum
Carlos Delfino

Via draft:
Mo Harkless
Royce White
Terrence Jones
Harrison Barnes (pick ahead of us)
Jae Crowder

SFs traded during the offseason:
Dorrell Wright
Marvin Williams
Corey Maggette
Kyle Korver
Trevor Ariza

Colangelo screwed up. No excuses.

LOL at props for Landry Fields. He's not here for his b-ball skills. That's about the best thing you can say about Clownangelo on this one. He wouldn't have signed him if not for the Steve Nash treasure hunt, which he lost, of course.

When Fields is really on his game (like, say, December 2010), he is a mediocre wing. But he hasn't been even mediocre for over a year.

There were other options, so tying money up in him means taking resources away from other, better options.

Drafting Ross and signing Fields for the purpose of signing Nash, without getting a prior commitment from Nash and/or his agent, was a poorly thought out plan. Or half plan. Or vague idea of a plan. And the team will suffer for it, as it's suffered for so many other poorly thought out Clownangelo plans. Not especially this year, as Lowry softens the non-Nash blow. But trading away a first round pick, not drafting Drummond, tying money up in Fields, in short, wasting a good chance for medium-term improvement this off-season, is going to impact pretty hard in about a year. Which is saying something, considering how bad we are right now.

I was watching PTS on Friday and the entire round table think Colangelo is on extremely thin ice.
Some of them think he should be fired and couple think we're almost at that point. They urged
him to do something soon if he wants a last ditch effort to save himself.

They also confirmed what I thought all along that Colangelo is extremely tight with Larry Tannenbaum
who still has the most power on the board. Colangelo used Tannenbaums jet, Manhattan apartment etc
to woo Steve Nash. Tannenbaum still is a "BC Guy" however with new ownership taking over they will
most likely not be pleased with the mess the Raptors are currently in and will want to make changes
and question Larry if he objects.

If the team loses the next six games (five road, one home) I hope the new owners make a move and give Colangelo the boot.

I am probably the minority here, but im afraid the lowry trade could be even much worse than the Fields signing!

Unfortunately you could be right. Way too early to know, but if the Lowry we are seeing now is relatively healthy then this could definitely be a crippling blow to the Raps whether we sign him to a contract he can't live up to or he walks away as a FA.

One thing is clear, BC can't be trusted to make that call. And we have the whole season to evaluate Lowry.

I know for a fact that they actually wanted Fields the player.

The contract is only marginally overpaid, which they are also aware of... you can argue with me on it if you like, but its true.

Well of course the risk is that Lowry doesn't improve the team and we end up giving up a pick that generally provides more upside than what Lowry will give us. Fields' contract is relatively small in terms of yearly salary and length, so if he's a total bust they're not punished too badly. That's not that extreme of a position to take.

I was searching through some old "Inside The NBA" videos and stumbled across this...It's a shame how far we've fallen since than.

hmm, if you put it that way it sounds bad.

if you put it this way:
He could have drafted a big and a guard in a whole different way: Drummond/QMiller instead of Ross/Acy smh

..yeah, it still sounds bad no matter how you put it. no excuses #FireBC

BC era vs NHL lockout, odds of surviving longest

BC -115
NHL lockout +115
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

How low does the team have to go before BC gets fired? Pretty low it would seem.

We only lost by three tonight. Don't you see how close we are to being a contender
