These are all coming from the draft, which was held last month. These are not just coming out of nowhere.

I think its safe to say this team is basically set as it is, a few trades may happen for minor players/role players but by no means will we get anything of substance now.

-Why would we need a low paying back up PG and a young PG w/ potential in talent. So why do we have JJ/Barbosa then?
- Sonny/DD could potentially be that defensive SF we "need".
- So you're basically saying we need both a young defensive C and an energy C, wow, where is this money/assets coming from?

JJ is a PG, Barbosa is a SG. The evening with BC post had him stating that Calderon was being shopped. Banks is expiring and a good asset for a trade as is Evans. Belinelli is also in this category.

We draft the future franchise PG, JJ still needs a Backup for this year.
Derozan and Barbosa play SG as well as Weems.
Weems isn't really big enough or good enough or defensively minded enough to play the roll of a defensive SF. Weems is really Just our utility/energy wing.

Derozan will definately never be a SF.

Signing, trading for or drafting a Starting C and Starting PG are #1 Priorities.
Alabi is said to be raw. So maybe one day he'll become one of the C's that I mentioned.

what about this

To Toronto: James Posey + Hasheem Thabeet + Mike Conley
To Memphis: Jose Calderon + MIA 2011 1st Round Pick (Toronto) + 3 million Cash (Toronto) + Incentive (NOH)
To New Orleans: Reggie Evans

what incentive would NOH add to dump Poseys extra year, for us we get ready for the summer where Barbosa and Posey come off the books. Would they add a pick swap with Memphis? Future 1st round pick? 2nd Round pick?

likely something like

To Toronto: James Posey + Hasheem Thabeet + Mike Conley
To Memphis: Jose Calderon + MIA 2011 1st Round Pick (Toronto) + 3 million Cash (Toronto) + NOH 2011 2nd
To New Orleans: Reggie Evans

Mike Conley / Jarret Jack / Marcus Banks
Demar Derozan / Lenadro Barbosa / Marco Belinelli
Linas Klezia / Sonny Weems / James Posey
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Joey Dorsey
Andrea Bargnani / Hasheem Thabeet / Solomon Alabi

Posey gets his minutes at the 4 mostly where we would be going small like BC said. That team has a future.

Give New Orleans Conley so they get a descent Pg and would be more willing to give better incentive, say top 10 protected lottery pick to memphis.

To Toronto: Posey, Thabeet
To Memphis: Jose, Mia 1st, 3 mil cash (Toronto), Noh 1st (top 10 protected)
To New Orleans: Conley (expiring, also makes it easier to trade collison or Paul)

Why for Toronto: Dumps Jose for a prospect.
Why for Memphis: Get a facilitator and fellow countryman of Marc Gasol who will become a FA, gets 2 1sts and cash.
Why for New Orleans: They trade a bad contract for a expiring prospect.

If Bynum has another minor injury, I could possibly see the Lakers wanting to dump his contract into the Raptors Bosh TPE.

i like my idea better. I like having Conley, hes at worst an expiring which we can use to access at the end of the year if hes worth moving forward with or not.

For them to dump Poseys 6.8 (Posey has a trade kicker BTW) for an expiring contract i could see them offering a future 1st or some kind of incentive to Memphis. A option to pick swap for example (top 3 protected)

With the news of CP3 wanting to go to Orlando:

Orlando

OUT: Jameer Nelson ($7.8M), Marcin Gortat ($6.3M), 2011 1st round pick

IN: Chris Paul ($14.9M)
Orlando loses seldom used Gortat and Nelson, who would be redundant with CP3. Toss in a pick, because it's CP3!

New Orleans:

OUT: Chris Paul ($14.9M) and James Posey ($6.4M)

IN: Mike Conley ($4.9M), Marco Belinelli ($2.3M), Hamed Haddadi ($1.6M), DeMarre Carrol ($1.0M), 2011 ORL 1st round pick, 2011 MIA 1st round pick, $11.3M TPE (Toronto)
New Orleans gets 4 young prospects on expiring deals, as well as a huge TPE and two 1st round draft picks, while dumping James Posey's contract. Decent value after your star demands a trade.

Memphis:

OUT: Mike Conley ($4.9M), Hamed Haddadi ($1.6M), and DeMarre Carrol ($1.0M)

IN: Jose Calderon ($9.0M)
Conley is on the block and Calderon just might convince Marc "The Franchise" Gasol to resign in Memphis next year.

Toronto:

OUT: Jose Calderon ($9.0M), Marco Belinelli ($2.3M), $11.3M TPE, 2011 MIA 1st round pick

IN: Jameer Nelson ($7.8M), Marcin Gortat ($6.3M), and James Posey ($6.4M)
Toronto uses all of the TPE they are comfortable using, keeping us under the tax, and give up Miami's pick. They deal young Marco Belinelli's expiring and shed Calderon in the process to a team that could use him. Raptors could still move Banks and Evans expiring contracts for something.

2011/2012 Toronto Raptors:

Nelson/Jack/Banks
DeRozan/Weems/Barbosa
Kleiza/Posey
Bargnani/Johnson/Davis/Evans
Gortat/Dorsey/Alabi

To Orlando:

Chris Paul

To New Orleans

Vince Carter + Tor TPE

Toronto:

Marcin Gortat

Don't even know if we can add some TPE to get Gortat? Either way, I think this would/could be a nice center of deal. Players can be added.

Small trade, but a useful one:

Reggie Evans (5.08 mill expiring) + Dwayne Jones (unguaranteed 1 mill) for Dan Gadzuric (7.25 mill expiring)

Why for Toronto: a legit center with athleticism, can serve as Bargnani's backup and fits with the new tempo of the team

Why for Golden State: one of the worst rebounding teams in the league, they get Reggie the rebounding machine; plus after waiving Jones, savings of over 2 million

Even without injury, I could see Bynum to the Raps for TPE + picks and then the Lakers try to turn around that package for Chris Paul.

With Chris Paul demanding a trade out of new orleans it pretty much shuts down the discussion for darren collison, but there was a report the other day saying that the Timberwolves are probably to trade one of their point guards (Sessions, Rubio, Flynn), i really like flynn and would love to see him running our team.

To Minnesota:
Miami first round pick
Portion of TPE ( 4 million)
Reggie Evans (Expiring)

To Toronto:
Johnny Flynn.

This one is a longshot but it does make sense. With Portland in the running for Chris Paul, i dont think they would have enough money for Oden, with Brandon Roy, Lamarcus Aldridge, and maybe chris paul, maybe this can bring oden over, remember oden is injury prone.

To Portland:
Toronto 1st round pick
Remainder of TPE (10.5 million)
Marco Beleneli

To Toronto:
Greg Oden

Toronto Raptors Roster

Flynn/Jack/Banks
Derozan/Barbosa
Kleiza/Weems
Bargnani/Davis
Oden/Johnson/Alabi

what this team needs is a Center and a young PG to groom.

we have right now

Jarret Jack / Jose Calderon / Marcus Banks
Demar Derozan / Lenadro Barbosa / Marco Belinelli
Linas Klezia / Sonny Weems
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Reggie Evans
Andrea Bargnani / Joey Dorsey / Solomon Alabi

so clearly you see a need for a Center and everyone knows ONE of the PGs will go (likely Calderon)

Jarret Jack / ?? / Marcus Banks
Demar Derozan / Lenadro Barbosa / Marco Belinelli
Linas Klezia / Sonny Weems
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Joey Dorsey
Andrea Bargnani / ?? / Solomon Alabi

thats what i think we need to do is find/fill in those gaps. The Center can be a project like Thabeet or someone like Okafor who comes in and has an immediate impact.

Options ive Outlined:

- Mike Conley & Hasheem Thabeet
- Darren Collison & Emeka Okafor

* all these moves have to make sense with the style were trying to play which is up and down. So you get players who fit that mold.

My goal would be to use Reggie Evans (expiring) + Jose Calderon + Miamis 1st Round Pick + Cash if need be and fill those gaps, now what teams really need a PG though?

Indiana:
Charlotte (upgrade):
Memphis (upgrade):
Miami (nothing to offer):
Atlanta (upgrade):

so i really have no idea how BC will move Calderon.

Don't forget the Pistons. That team would probably require a PG upgrade as well. Although I don't know what they would be offering.

thats true but i dont know what id want from the Pistons..

Hamilton (doesnt fit, too old)
Gordon (no place with Barbosa here)
Prince (sure but hes older, id do if for the pure expiring factor)

unless its a 3 team deal i cant see anything i like from them.

It might end up being a 3 team deal where the Raptors get whatever from the 3rd team that gets Hamilton.

EDIT:

And/or Villanueva/Prince.

hm but who needs a SG (contending team)? Dallas? Denver? Utah? dont see a market really for Hamilton that we could use anything. Have any ideas?

EDIT: After reading how barbosa more than likely is the backup PG i would do this.

To Toronto: Brandon Rush + Jeff Foster
To Indiana: Jose Calderon

Jarret Jack / Leandro Barbosa / Marcus Banks
Demar Derozan / Brandon Rush / Marco Belinelli
Linas Klezia / Sonny Weems
Amir Johnson / Ed Davis / Joey Dorsey
Andrea Bargnani / Jeff Foster / Solomon Alabi

+ Trade Evans

or try this 3 way.

To Toronto: Emeka Okafor + Brandon Rush
To Indiana: Jose Calderon + MIA 2011 1st Round Pick? (maybe to get them to take on joses contract)
To Golden State: Jeff Foster + Reggie Evans

Jarret Jack / Leandro Barbosa / Marcus Banks
Demar Derozan / Brandon Rush / Marco Belinelli
Linas Klezia / Sonny Weems
Andrea Bargnani / Ed Davis / Joey Dorsey
Emeka Okafor / Amir Johnson / Solomon Alabi

* like this lineup a lot. Really uptempo team, Rush is a solid young defender, IND can then trade Ford to CHA for Mohammad save some money

Calderon / Farmar (2 million) / Price
George / Jones / Stephenson
Granger / Dunleavy
Hansbrough / Mohammad / Mcroberts
Murphy / Hibbert / Jones

NOH saves money, get expiring contracts for Okafor. This way if they trade Paul they can start over fast.

Raptors trade: Calderon, Belinelli, Evans, Jones
Raptors get: Kirilenko, Wilcox

Pistons trade: Hamilton, Wilcox
Pistons get: Calderon, Belinelli, Evans

Jazz trade: Kirilenko
Jazz get: Hamilton, Jones

This trade puts the Jazz below the Luxury Tax Threshold.

wow, very interesting. Nice job. They just signed Raja Bell though, i just realized that so i dont know but Hamilton would look nice in UTA's system

I think at this point Bell would be best served as a role player off the bench or perhaps playing beside RIP at the wing spots. They still need point production of the wings which RIP would provide. Plus with all the stars teaming up together(and wanting to team up together), it would be in Utah's best interest to show Deron that they are serious about winning before he starts thinking of bolting to another team.
