if there ever was a season to take a step back and retool this might be it from a marketing/business perspective. shortened season, not playing in toronto.

"Less than a day after Goran Dragic signed a contract with the Suns, the Houston Rockets traded away Kyle Lowry for no more than a protected first-round pick." and Gary Forbes.

Well how did that work out Raptors fans???? Lets say they play at Prudential Center in Newark. Turnpike willing Lowry is an hour and a bit from his Philly home in the last year of his contract. That sounds to me a lot like home is beckoning especially for family and kids. Morey was the GM of Houston when he received Canadian Tire money for Lowry in 2012. Would Morey cough up the (on further review) not so great contract of Horford, 27 year old Josh Richardson and the 24 and 34 selections to make a splash? You gotta like the story line if nothing else. Lowry would change Philly's dynamic the moment he arrives. Ben Simmons could move to shooting guard to go along with their other 10 shooting guards who are not 6 foot 10. Raps could sign a depth big like Will Hernangomez which would not break the bank. One thing we know Houston is not sending Harden to Philly... It drops us to 5 or 6 seed but we are not dishing out minutes to aging players two of which previously were pulling in a combined 50 mil plus. We likely get torched in the playoffs in another fake season but we have a whole new retool dynamic with considerably more upside. If Lowry is our best pitch to get Giannis we better drink a strong coffee or two. Lowry has gone back home if we play in NJ. Might as well make it official.

I don’t want Lowry leaving at all, i think the biggest reason Giannis comes here is because of the vet presence and leadership of Lowry, not Fred, OG or Masai ties. If Lowry is not here, i don’t see Giannis coming here at all, book it. Its also why at the end of the season Masai said he sees Lowry giving them another bunch of years of star play and he was gushing with what Lowry did. I don’t see any scenario where he leaves unless he wants to play in Philly. Im sure Lowry can be given a multi year deal to recover what he may lose because of signing Giannis. Without Lowry this team is leaderless, and yes would be no better than the current Bucks team.

If Giannis comes it’s because of masai, they city of Toronto, the Greek and African connections, and because we have proven to be a top tier organization on all levels. Lowry is way down the list of reasons to consider.

I think Edwards has a shot at being really good. He compared himself to Wade and even Wade acknowledged him. He has his own good development group and combined with ours it could be good. Good enough, to be a shot creator or first option.

Powell, Davis, 29 for 1st(MIN), James Johnson

If Raps sign Giannis as an FA, it means they've either let Fred walk this season, or renounced the Bird rights on Lowry in 2021 to get rid of his cap hold. They're not letting Fred walk, so I don't see how Lowry is on the team after this upcoming season unless he signs for the vet min or room exception.

Siakim 34 mill
Fvv 20mill. (54mill)
Og cap hold ? 5 mill? Maybe less? (59mill)
Thomas 2 mill (61mill)
Rookies/ other mins (5mill) 65mill

Giannis 35 mill? Starting (100mill)
Signing Lowry at around 15 mill or so long term

Doable ?

He probably would’ve got some spot/garbage time minutes with all the injuries to bigs this season.

I feel bad for basically all marginal/unproven nba talents. No summer league, g-league season is in doubt, really hard to arrange safe 5 on 5 playing environments to improve in and showcase any improvement. Plus cap squeeze likely to have team s carrying less than maximum roster of players.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Lowry could sign a 1 year MLE type and then resign him going further into tax if he's still playing well.

Without Rondo I don’t see Lakers winning the title this year. Vet star PG’s with high IQ are always important.

Oh and OG’s cap hold is about 11.6 Mil

They would renounce Lowry’s cap hold. Then sign him to a new deal with whatever is left. Then they would resign OG going over the cap with bird rights

Whether Fred stays or not we are renojncing Lowry his caphold is crazy at 445 Mil. So that is happening regardless

There should be a stickied thread on this constantly recurring issue, but if Raps use cap space to sign an FA in 2021, then they don't get to use the mid level exception. It's only an exception for teams without cap space. So it's vet min or room exception. Perhaps there's already a deal in place where the Raps agree to escalate Lowry's salary again in 2022. But if they've already renounced his Bird rights/cap hold in 2021, then they can't go over the MLE in 2022 to sign Lowry. And I would assume they'll have a better use for the MLE at that time.

Thanks. I thought it would be lower, where is that info available what determines it.

I thought accolades and past earnings were big factors and with OG despite me thinking VERY high on him, him being a late first with little accolades or big stats thought we might get really lucky in that aspect

If the Lakers are in win-now mode what about Norm for Kuzma + 28 + filler?

I don’t want to keep Kuzma but, the trade is because I think more teams will be interested in him since he’s still on his rookie contract and will be an RFA when his deal is done.

How far up can we move in the draft with Kuzma + TD + 28 + 29?

Assuming Lowry is still here and I would never assume that with Masai, I think they would want Lowry to take the MLE. MLE allows you to go over the cap so perfect for Lowry. Lowry won't get 15 from us. 10 tops.

No, MLE allows teams already OVER the cap to sign an FA for up to the MLE. Raps will be way under the cap if they plan to sign a big FA in 2021. So the MLE won't be available. As I noted above, the most the Raps can offer Lowry for the 21-22 season is the vet min or the room exception, which is, what ~$2 mill?

probably top 10. this draft is a crapshoot. I think Wiseman will be the best player down the stretch but i have doubts about that too.

Me neither this all looks like going from Joe Montana to Steve Young. The Fred era. Calling it now Lowry is going home.

Raps can go over the cap if they resign OG and Norm

FVV at 20
Siakam at 32
Giannis at 35
Powell at 20 (resigns)
OG resigns 15-20 (resigns)

(assuming Powell and OG become indispensable this upcoming season)

this pushes the Raptors over the cap - does the MLE come into play?

Umm the problem with that is we have 5 players on the roster and no cap space left.

This is another reason why we need more picks so we have 4 year rookie contracts that can also be solid rotation players. Its also another reason why we shouldn't resign Fred and hope to sign Lowry to a smaller contract. Add a couple a vets who are chasing a ring, an MLE contract and we're back in the Finals.

I don’t want to keep Kuzma but, the trade is because I think more teams will be interested in him since he’s still on his rookie contract and will be an RFA when his deal is done.

How far up can we move in the draft with Kuzma + TD + 28 + 29?

probably top 10. this draft is a crapshoot. I think Wiseman will be the best player down the stretch but i have doubts about that too.

I think Wiseman doesn’t fall past the Hornets, they love their bigs.

I really like Hayes/Okongwu/Lewis Jr. in that 6-10 range.

Add a couple a vets who are chasing a ring, an MLE contract and we're back in the Finals.

well i'm listing the obvious players with major contracts.
