What's the odds to crack into the top 5 from those positions???

If we finish 7th last we'd have an approximate 30% of getting a top 4. 8th last is approximate 26% chance of top 4.

You can run a simulator based on current standings here: http://www.tankathon.com/

I'm optimistic we can improve our lottery standing but it's going to take serious commitment from Nick Nurse. This week is HUGE in terms of what we control. With Lowry out, FVV possibly on the shelf as well this is a great time for the tank job.

Tankers Guide To The Galaxy

April 4th
-We needed to drop that Warriors game but hopefully the karma gods are on our side. Handing OKC that W was huge though it could have been over for the tank if we went 2-0 during that stretch.

April 5th
-Raptors v Washington. Raptors need to drop the Wizards game. I'm hoping because we start a back to back with injuries we pull our starters early. Beal might stay on the shelf too which might make this tough.

-OKC v Pistons is going to be a tank off. Hopefully Pistons pull the W and get closer to us. Not the worst thing if OKC pulls away from us though.

April 6th
-Raptors v Lakers better pull their best game against us, a W against the champs might give the Raptors second thoughts about tanking.

April 7th
-Orlando v Washington tank off. Hopefully if we do our job and lose to the Wizards on Monday this game benefits us. Hoping Beal returns but he could easily be load managed. Someone has to take the W. Letthemfight.gif

April 8th
-Raptors v Bulls. NEED to drop the Bulls game but this might be a challenge. Bulls are sucking big time but on paper they have the tools to win. Hopefully Vucevic has a career night.

-OKC v Cavs tank off. OKC will be coming off a back to back. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some "injury" that allows them to drop 2 in a row. Not the worst thing in the world for Cavs to take the W though.

April 10
Circle this one.
-Raptors versus Cleveland. Another must lose game for the Raptors. Handing Cleveland a W here would be very helpful - they also start a back to back and might "load manage". This is a game we have to purposefully tank early. Of all games we need to throw it's this one. Sadly I see us winning this game just because of rest.

Realistically we could end 2-2 (Ws against Washington/Cavs, would prefer it be Lakers/Bulls though).
If we're fully committed we be 0-4 and hand 2 key W's to Wizards/Cavs.

The waters get a bit murky after these 4 games. But this week could be crucial to our franchise. Cade, Suggs, or Mobley may bring us closer to championship #2.

I would say the second most important stretch of the season (the most being the stretch of games they lost as soon as our guys came back from covid). Lose this week and we're set for the draft. Win this week and we shoot ourselves in the foot.

If the Raptors have a winning week, this team can find themselves around 10th or 11th place slot, instead of in the 5-6 range. I hate to see this team shoot themselves in the foot, and give up a chance to draft hopefully one of the top 5 prospects. Hoping Masai can convince Nurse to look at the long-term picture, and load manage OG, Siakam, FVV and Lowry (when they are healthy again) the rest of the year.

We have people on here suggesting we go all in to get swept in the 1st round, completely based off emotions and not being able to handle the losing. And all this time I thought they must be convinced there’s another way back to contender status... nope, just emotions.

We're watching grown men play a children's game. The entire point is to feel feelings.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Only thing I feel is an attachment to the Team’s success, not to the players or coaches or individual games/seasons. I want this team to be the best it can possibly be. Unfortunately that means losing right now. Not the worst thing in the world if you have an actual life outside of watching the NBA.

That's nice, and I enjoy the fantasy of the draft as well, but begrudging someone who just wants some entertaining basketball to watch tonight and deriding their emotions or whatever is silly. It's professional basketball.

It's not just emotion - it's delusion: "Losing Ibaka hurts, but the rest of our team has another year of success" 19-30 is another year of success. "may be sixers or bucks, both of which we own mentally" yes we own them in "our" minds if that's what mentally means.

Team Mediocre (nicely Team Let's Win) couldn't get their own thread fast enough.

I would say the second most important stretch of the season (the most being the stretch of games they lost as soon as our guys came back from covid). Lose this week and we're set for the draft. Win this week and we shoot ourselves in the foot.

Just for our own mental health, it's fair to pick a reasonable target. Right now we're in 7th, with 31.9% odds of a top five (actually top 4 - 5th spot would be impossible) pick. I don't think Raptors can drop to 5th or below, without angering the Lord of Basketball Karma. We must appease them while continuing the stealth tank.

6th may be attainable, with 36.2% chance of a top 4 pick. But that's only 4.3% more, and would require the expenditure of a ton of anxiety points. We should be happy where we are - in 7th spot (19 wins).

Now, who is the enemy? First, the teams just behind us in wins. Bulls (20 wins) have to be in win-now mode. They have no defence, but Lavine and Vuc should win them a few games. Sacramento (22 wins) just acquired this hot new prospect who should shoot them into a few extra wins. Unquestionably the biggest power tank right now is being conducted by OKC (20 wins). It's really hard to see them winning another game this season. It was great to lose to them, but they are going to blow past us at some point.

That means to stay in 7th, we have to overtake two of the 17-win teams ahead of us - Wizards, Magic and Cavs. Magic are playing with bounce, and were 18 points up on the Nuggets at the half last night, but they just don't have a star that will uplift them. They NEED a top five pick. Jeff's not stupid.

So Cavs and Wizards are the real enemies, as they have been so often in recent Raptors history. Cavs have young talent they want to develop. And they want to prove Love can still play so they can trade him this summer. I can see them winning some games. Watching Sexton destroy the Raps a few weeks gives cause for hope, and I've always liked Jarrett Allen. NP.

Wizards, those bastards. WTF is going on with Beal? Is the plan to definitely trade him this summer - so they won't play him for the rest of the season? And Silver is going to allow this? Definitely an offence to the Lord of BB Karma. They're not gonna make it out of Jan Vesely territory in the lottery, but we NEED that 7th spot. We DESERVE that spot. Until the end of the season, this will be the hardest fight for the Raps since the Sixers series. We must lose tonight. Failure is not an option. Don't ever come back to Toronto if you win.

If we are out of the top 5, Bouknight is definitely the player for us to grab. He looks like a devin booker / beal / cj type of bucket getter.

Just with added unbiased perspective and foresight, but otherwise, yeah.

Return to Toronto Raptors
