Could Denver end up with the TPE, and the Raps unprotected pick? Would anyone be willing to give that up for Deng and Noah? I wouldn't, but I know some people love Noah.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I believe a player like Noah gets us the most out of Bargnani. Let Bargs rest on D and go wild on O.

Absolutely not. I would not even take Deng and Noah without giving up our pick. Deng (with his contract) has no place on the Raps.

It doesn't really help us all that much but, this works:
Toronto gets Deng, Nene & Lawson
Chicago gets Melo & the bulk of the TPE
Denver gets Noah, Jose, Reggie and the rest of the TPE

If I'm Denver, I'd rather have Noah than a pick of uncertain value since Noah is a lot more advanced than any rookie who will be drafted next June.
If I was Denver and trading Carmelo, I'd want to do it in mid-December and make sure that the deal moves out Al Harrington - a stupid signing if they flip into a rebuild. They'd also want to get under the tax threshold. So they basically want to move out $25 million in salary and take back no more than $15 million, give or take, preferably expiring contracts. Chicago has few of those. Chicago would want to move Deng, because Carmelo and Deng play the same position. But Denver wants flexibility. Now Cleveland might be tempted by Deng, whose deal they could absorb and they could then play Jamison as a four until after the lockout when his deal would end. So they might be a better third team trade partner. Carmelo and Harrington goe to Chicago, Deng goes to Cleveland, Noah, James Johnson and Taj Gibson go to Denver. It's not as much as Denver wants talentwise, but it represents a lot of flexibility and saves a tonne of luxury tax cash, gives them one anchor talent. Either Cleveland or Denver would get that 2012 Charlotte pick from Chicago.

It helps us out so little that if it were legal, I'd do it in a knat's heartbeat. But you can't trade a TPE like slices from a loaf of bread. Your example has Chicago actually getting more salary than they send out.

The raptors are definately not going to get a point guard for this season, there gonna try and raise calderons value a bit and get the best deal available probably a defensive C which is all we need right now. Unless like reports have been saying that deron williams might be asking for a trade and i can see the raptors jumping to that. What would be a good deal for him??

Jack/our 1st/Miami 1st/Evans/Banks for DWill/filler
It's not enough though and I doubt he'd want to come here.

What about? - Trade ID #5691389
To Cleveland
Leandro Barbosa
Reggie Evans
To Toronto
Anderson Varejao
Daniel Gibson
Clev in full-rebuilding saves over 20 million. and still get good players
We get that much needed relentless rebounder that would chase 'til his "death" all Bargs&Kleiza missed shots.

never mind the fact that you gave Denver absolutely nothing good in that trade.
like they want Jose...or want a team built around Billups and Noah

Denver trades:
Melo, Nene
gets:
TPE(about 12 million) Toronto first top 5 protected in 2011), Chicago first, Banks, Evans, Weems, Noah
Lots of cap savings, some picks and a couple of youngsters.
Chicago trades:
Noah, Deng, 2011 first
gets:
Melo
Enough said
Toronto trades:
TPE, First rounder protected, Weems, Banks, Evans
gets:
Deng, Nene
Toronto gets a front court pairing that will allow for bargs to bloom at PF by focusing on offense.
Jack/Jose/Barbosa
Demar/Barbosa
Deng/Kleiza/Wright
Bargs/Amir/Dorsey
Nene/Davis/Anderson

Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
Not a bad trade... it Deng-Nene-Bargs would definately be a huge boost in our front court. We'd probably make the playoffs.
But we'd probably never be much more than a .500 team. And we'd have no cap space to get us over that hump.
How about this:
Incoming: Brand + first rounder
Outgoing: Calderon + Evans + Banks
Philly: Gets out of Brand's contract and gets two expiring contracts that they can use to improve their roster. Caldy can play backup point, or they can work a three-way to move him.
Toronto: Brand is on a horrible contract, but he's good enough to start in our front court. Plus, we're going to suck anyway for the next two years... might as well have that extra first rounder.

trades like those (deng nene brand etc) need to stop IMO . All it does is make chicago elite. It doesn't really help us in the short or long run, makes us a treadmill team and not competitve enough to compete with miami, chicago, orlando, boston etc.
either strike gold in a trade or take the okc route and bomb away at the draft and hope to land someone in free agency

I agree that we need to stop with the stop-gap trades that make us no better than a middle of the road team. I also think free agency isn't the answer... it's a good source for players with low salaries, but often results in overpaying for guys at the MLE level and above. Then, a year after the player is signed they often have negative value, as per guys like Brand and Calderon.
Personally, I think you need to hit your homeruns via the draft. The primary reason why I suggested the Brand trade is because it would land us an extra pick... probably a lottery pick. It hurts to take on Brand, but when you minus the money Calderon is owed, it works out to be 8 million or so per year. That would hurt our budget over the next two years, but then his contract would become a valuable expiring. Plus, I think we're going to stink next year anyway, so that 8 million probably wouldn't do us much good in free agency anyway.

Sorry I cannot see getting involved in a Melo trade that nets us Deng bad contract and all. I'd rather have Melo to auction at the deadline than deliver the quality goods to Chicago, who quite frankly we should never assist because you can chalk every meeting with Raps and them as guaranteed losses with Melo in tow. Chicago would owe their "contender" status directly to the Raps. The league would have to investigate to see if money changed hands. Let them ride Rose, Boozer and Noah with no help from us thank-you very much. Nene in a separate deal including TPE OK.

DeRozan and a top 3 pick? That's a lot to pay for a backcourt that's rather small, and may be broken up by Memphis, because the two don't seem to be compatible with one another, when talking about Conley and Mayo. But don't get me wrong, either one would be a great acquisition for our team. I actually think Conley fits pretty well with DeRozan.
Overall, though, I think Memphis and Toronto make pretty good trade partners. An ideal trade for this Raptors team to make would be to acquire Mike Conley and see what he can do for you at PG. It's worth it, because the guy still has a lot of potential at only 22 yrs. of age. It'd be nice to have a PG prospect to watch develop in a season that can be deemed as 'the season of development'.
And also, last time I checked, Xavier Henry has yet to sign with Memphis. He's another top prospect that I would look into acquiring, although it would probably come at the expense of Sonny Weems. I say, try to accumulate as many assets as you can, kind of like what OKC has done.

Woops sorry I meant 2011 pick thats top 3 protected (so if its in the top 3 we keep it). I personally think the problem with Conley/Mayo is Gay. Three guys on the wings who all need the ball to be effective sucks and is part of the reason Conley has underachieved. But he is still one of the more athletics PG"s in the league and could be a solid PG for years to come.
Demar is nice but Mayo is a way better prospect and has way better tools then Demar. He's also slightly held back because of the scoring options on Memphis. He'll be up for an extension soon and I doubt Memphis would want to give him a lucrative deal to stay with Gasol looking at a bigger deal next summer. He comes to Toronto getting the opportunity to be the #1 option on the wings.

Unfortunately with a owner like MLSE, that won't happen (OKC route). Both and the Leafs and Raps just keep retooling, instead of an ACTUAL rebuild. It's funny but MLSE thinks they will lose fans, but the real fans would appreciate a rebuild, its the casual fans they tend to care about more. They will always cater to the casual fan, especially for basketball in Toronto.
