I think Raptor's Media reached BINGO status on your scorecard. I especially love the Overly Compliant Players. Raps are great at towing the company line.

Derozan is a volume shooter, Lowry and Sully show up out of shape, Carroll still isn't healthy, JV is going to ride the bench

We aren't even going to sniff the playoffs this year lmao

Sully looks like he did when he was drafted. At least from the waist up. Lowry looks like power lifting KL. Not as lean as last year but ready to scrap. I think we are going to be surprised at Sully''s impact. He is a guy who should have been a top 5 pick. He fits our slow ball better than playing with IT.

Should have been a top 5 pick??? Loot at that draft... Anthony Davis, Lillard, Drummond, Draymond, Beal, Barnes, Middleton, Crowder etc. Come on man. It's arguable if Sullinger is better than any of the Miles Plumlee, MKG, Fournier, Henson, Harkless, Ross type guys of that draft.

He's a heady player, but his scoring has always been inefficient. He also can't stay in shape so he's too slow at times for PF, but doesn't have the kind of game you want a center to have either. He's better than Scola, but let's not overhype him because he's the only vet we picked up, he is what he is. If he should have been a top 5 pick we wouldn't have signed him as a leftover Free Agent who needs a second try at producing in a contract year.

We're due for a bad one. And if Lowry is going to mess up or get injured, it would be helpful for the franchise if he did it this season rather than after his big contract. And if we really do bomb out of the playoffs, it's a strong draft year.

But I'm a long-time typically pessimistic Raptors fan, and none of my spidey-senses are tingling about this year. It should be a pretty good season. I think we all should have bigger worries right now then the Raptors.

No we're not. We've lived through too many terrible seasons already

Well, injuries aside, I think it's going to come down to whether we can fill the void left by Biz, and I do think it's an impactful void.

It'll probably be an okay season. Probably not as great as last season, so anything less would be seen as disappointment I guess.

I'm mostly watching for the young guys right now, but obviously Lowry and co will have their moments as usual.

Pretty much where I'm at as well. If JV can have an all-star type season and Powell can continue to beat expectations then I won't be too disappointed.

I wrote an article on this after the Brooklyn series loss: "Peak, Plateau, Permanent"

Our franchise is at a point where we need to "know our truth" which means knowing what brings us success and keeping that success over a long period of time. If we break down and 'blow it up' we take this era and move it back into a 'quick peak' period (just like the Carter or Bosh days) and go back to step 1 as an organization.

We need to extend this playoff berth period for as long as we can - sure Lowry and Demar may never get us to the finals, but thats fine, we need to organization to learn what it takes to even be in the race every year, to get to a point where we can "make a splash" and actually compete for the 'ship.

JV and Powell having big years, as well as one or both of Siakam and Poeltl looking good in their rookie years, would be huge this year. If only for the sake of trade. When a team with a superstar struggles the first couple months of the year, we have to pounce. Our young players increasing their trade value through their play is what will make or break whether we can make that type of trade or not.

Given our teams situation we're basically waiting until a trade for a superstar, or the team falls apart and we rebuild again. It could be years for either to happen, so until then we just enjoy a 50+ win team that isn't a real contender.

The backup wing spots are the most interesting IMO
We know the starters are Kyle/DeMar/Carroll

But who gets the next spot?
- TRoss is obviously the one who needs to pick up his game the most and we need his shooting after Carroll
- Cojo was the 6th man last year and did a great job playing defense, penetrating and getting big buckets
- Powell is a bit of a wild card but we saw what he can do end of last season/Pacers series we know he can play tough defense

My guess is Ross gets the most starts (replacing injured Carroll) and plays the most backup wing minutes, Cojo stays 6th man and Powell is underutilized due to too much depth

As much as I love the guys on this team ... I do wish Masai had been a bit more aggressive in trying to improve the team this offseason.

He was aggressive but had some bad luck with the Pau Gasol signing and the Chicago trade.

We were seconds from having both Tony Snell and Taj Gibson for Ross and seconds from signing Pau.

Both fell through bc Wade chose Chicago and Duncan retired. There wasn't much else he could have done without giving up a ton.

Masai Ujiri dodged bullets again by those trades not going threw. I would rather have Sullinger & Ross instead of Gibson & Snell or Gasol. I was also happy he did not overpay for Ibaka. The fact of the matter is the Raptors are good enough to get back to where they were last season as is. There is nobody out there that is going to get them past Cleveland. Ujiri was smart to keep the pick and add another cheap asset.

Return to Toronto Raptors
