Sucks... DD has limitations but he was a franchise player.

I doubt we are getting another franchise player in few years.

I have long been a fan of DD. I appreciate loyalty. But we have been loyal in return. When we stuck with him during his "empty the clip" phase, and multiple worst advanced stats playoff performances of all time.

And its not like he took deep discounts to stay here like some of the guys on GSW. He is earning just shy of the max.

That sucks. He’s a class act. They never should have promised him he would not be traded.

But he’s going to a great organization and gets a fresh start and gets to move from a situation that wasn’t built right, and that’s he pretty wrongly took far too much heat for.

I’m interested to see what he does in SAS especially as it relates to a bunch of advanced metrics and the lessons that will come out of that for some people.

so why would kawhi sign here long term and move his family here when looking at demar's situation ? Why you think a lot of these ex raptor saying what they're saying ? "They did my man wrong" you're fooling yourself if you think players don't pay attention to loyalty. That's part of why kobe is the king of LA! A lot of great players played for the lakers but loyalty is a big party of his legacy there.. He was a great player to everybody but the loyalty in their relationship plays a big part in his status there as why he still working for them. Don't get me wrong demar needed to so go! I've said countless times that both him and lowry needs to go. The issue is they should have never resigned him to that max deal, he should have been moved before that and there wouldn't be any talk of loyalty.

You make no sense. If they let him walk and never resigned him, there would be no Lowry and no Kawhi. This team would be stuck in mediocrity and NO free agents would be lining up to sign here because this team has no “loyalty” issues.

Moving Demar years ago, does not bring Kawhi in return.

I like Demar and I am sad to see him go, but this loyalty thing is overblown. What was so loyal that he did?

What because he resigned here for more money than he could get anywhere else or talked nicely about the city/organization he was employed by? Big deal. So what we are obligated to keep him for his entire career/contract because he is a nice guy? For all we know the Raptors could have been attempting to get Kawhi without including Demar and that was what was holding up the trade and why he was told they weren't trading him.

As much as I wanted DD traded, he did not deserve it like this.

its been pretty clear no one was off-limits.

No Derozan just wanted to be the man and the guy taking all the shots.

Of course he loved it here, no one else would have spoiled him like that.

I’ll be interested to hear to exact reports about what Demar was told.

“We are planning for you to be here”

“We like you as a player and Nic is excited to work with you”

None of the about type statements are promises not to move you.

Yes he is an all star but not a super star or elite all star (maybe 2nd/3rd tier all star) He could not help us get over the hump. Numerous playoffs have shown that. They way we dealt our most loyal player and lie to him about not trading him. We are never retaining any star in the future. Not Kawhi, and not any other star we may draft in the future.

i honestly believe demar's jersey should be retired here.

There have been plenty of players worse than him that got their jerseys retired in other cities

What has Demar done to deserve that? lol when he comes back to Toronto he needs to be given the respek he deserves.

He just gets rid of LBJ from the east and then he gets shipped to the shark tank that is the western conference. He may end up with Lebron in LA when it's all said and done.

I mean... we've basically heard reports since the beginning of the off-season that no one was off-limits. I'm not sure what he was expecting. This is a sports team. You do what is best for your team going forward.

I'm also curious to hear the Raptors side of this. Maybe there wasn't much to the rumors when Demar and the head office talked about it, and they didn't think a deal was done. But I mean, they probably should of at least told him there was a possibility. But again, this is a sports team. Trades happen all the time.

I feel like the IT situation last year was MUCH worse than this type of deal. Demar is going to one of the most successful teams in NBA history for a top-5 player. It's not like we just traded him to Sacremento.
