Getting Chomche at 57 is a steal lol.
He might even be the best Raptor drafted in 2024 in a few years.

Re: With the 57th pick, the Raptors select Ulrich Chomche
I've seen the kid play 2 times, and I saw clips from the combine scrimmage. Take this for what it's worth.
Athletically: Kid is the best athlete in the draft IMO, he's the definition of a fast twitch athlete. He doesn't jump the highest, but he still had a 36" vertical, and with a 7-4 wingspan he can contest any shot. Where he's special is that he gets off the ground so quick, it reminds me of Rodman/Marion how quickly he gets off the floor. He's also ridiculously mobile for a guy who is so big and long, he covers so much space defensively. I'll also add he has some of the quickest feet I've ever seen on a bigman, he played soccer growing up so this isn't surprising. His ability to recover is honestly ridiculous. Kid is a top tier athlete is every single way.
IQ: I won't even sugar coat... he's pretty lost offensively and defensively. You can really tell he's hasn't played basketball for very long. In the tapes I've watched there where many instances where he was simply at the wrong spot. What's promising is, even though he's missing rotations, and he looks lost at times, you can tell he has pretty decent vision. He can see the play develop, but he lacks the reps and playing time that it hasn't been fully ingrained into him yet. Thanks to his athletic abilities, he does have an uncanny ability to recover pretty quickly
Skill: Bad shooter, ball handler, very mistake prone. He does have decent form on his jumper, so he does show potential there. He also looks VERY good when he dribbles the ball... He's such a fluid and graceful athlete, but he has a tendency to pull a Demar (dribble off his foot). This all comes down to experience. This kid might be the biggest project drafted since Giannis. He also shows the ability to throw some very advanced level passes... passing might be his best trait offensively so far, he has thrown some passes that made me go back and rewatch and analyze what he just did. From the games I saw, he has pretty good touch from in close as well.
Overall: Kid is a project 100%, and IMO the best athlete in the draft. He also just turned eighteen 6 months ago, and doesn't turn 19 until December 30th. To say he's raw would be underselling it, I don't think he's ready to play in the g league yet. I think the best way to bring him along is to develop him first season, and let him practice with the big club. I think he has DPOY potential, but it's all going to depend how the club develops him, and of course how hungry he is, but he has massive potential. His playstyle is honestly Serge Ibaka mixed with Bam Adebayo (playstyle, NOT impact).

To be fair drafting this low is a little different because these low picks figure to spend a lot of time in the g league
Masai's low key genius to get out of the first round and make moves to dominate the 2nd round.

Let's playin for 9th!

LOL, maybe he was just BSing for negotiations purposes.
I was just going to post, didn't Masai say after the Pascal trade there's no way he'd keep all the draft picks? It's a lot of rookies.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Stash at overseas for what? So his valuable early development is at the mercy of people that don't answer to Raptors and don't particularly care about the guy's long-term development just their wins-and-losses here and now? That's a recipe for disaster and kinda what happened with Bruno Caboclo and lack of proper development during his first year.
The guy needs a lot of hands-on development minutes, A LOT of time invested by both the player and the team. The only way you can ensure that happens is through a G league team we have direct control over.
Bruno was drafted as a SF, who had to be molded into a big man, plus he was taken in the first round, he had guaranteed money.
Chomche is a 18 year old big man who is athletic, has great measurements, and has played the position he's going to be developed at. Chomche was also taken in the 2nd round. Big difference.
Not sure what you are saying has anything to do with my post.

Definitely should stash him before bringing him over. Let him play & be around some pros outside of Africa.

I wish they had an interviewer who knew French because it might have been easier to get more pointed/in depth answers from him. He did very well trying to answer their questions regardless.

I appreciate his honesty. He really knew nothing about basketball until they told him to go to the academy. His basketball knowledge and experience level would be that of a 8 year old playing in an after school league.

I'd say his highest floor is a Giannis/Dwight Howard fusion his bottom is rock bottom out of the league if he doesn't improve and develop his game, boom or bust type of prospect but he can't be a bust since he's drafted at 55. He's a no risk extremely high reward type of prospect, to me he has the absolute highest potential much more than Sarr in this draft.

Between Canada basketball and watching 4 young rookies play in the summer league and wherever else like Rico Runs, it’s going to be a good summer of basketball after all. This kid just needs to play as much ball as possible

This should be called the terrible draft everyone fell in love with. Danny Ainge: Cody Williams #10, Isiaiah Collier #29, Kyle Filipowski #32.
So many trades.
So many trades.

Best out of the whole draft.
His upside is HIGH.
It'll take about four years though.

Ours is very respectable.
JaKobe Walter #19. Jonathan Mogbo #31. Jamal Shead #45. Ulrich Chomche #57.
By Raps standards they went nuts.

The case for stashing overseas is that his rookie contract doesnt begin until he joins the big club. So that means you dont have to worry about hitting free agency when he's still super raw and should technically get his better years at a cheap rate.
It worked well in the JV situation but don't recall the Bruno part. Comes down to whether the people he'd be working with wherever he plays overseas is a trustworthy situation.
