Hair Canada wrote:An article on JR Barrett, but also with some speculation on the Canadian team for the WC.

Highlights:

"If Canada is to qualify for Tokyo, it will have to do so without Barrett. As is common practice with rookies looking to play internationally, NBA responsibilities are the priority, namely Summer League."

"Rowan Sr. announced earlier this week that Andrew Wiggins will play at the World Cup, while going on to say that no one he has asked to play has said no yet. Presumably, that would mean Jamal Murray, Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, and Kelly Olynyk, all established NBA players, are in."

https://www.app.com/story/sports/nba/2019/06/19/nba-draft-knicks-rj-barrett/1483285001/

I guess the fact that no one has yet said "no" is a good thing. But how many have said "yes"?

And, since we don't know which players Barrett Sr. has asked, its a completely empty statement.
No one I have asked to play has said no yet either.

Re Barrett's participation, we knew it would be in doubt because incoming rookies rarely play, but citing summer league? Summer league will be long over before the World Cup games (or even the exhibition games) start.

Not really that big a surprise.

Anyways, he just got drafted and gave a pretty touching interview with his dad. Happy for him and hope the Knicks take care of this kid.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker finally off the board. Cool haul for for New Orleans:

PF/SF - Zion
C - Hayes
PG/SG - Alexander-Walker

Should be interesting to see if he can get minutes... With the recent trade New Orleans back-court is loaded with young players who will be looking for minutes (Ball + Hart) and experienced returning players (Holiday + Moore). Maybe he'll get looks at the 3?

There it is. Kabengele goes late 1st, he's on his way to the Clippers, and that's a Canadian record 4 players drafted in the first round. LAC now has Shai and Kabengele.

That article and writer has no inside information at all. We all know it is common practice for rookies not to play FIBA but it is not always the case. And RJ is different with his connection to basketball Canada.

Ignore that article. There is nothing new or insightful there. We don’t know if he is playing or not and it is still a coin toss to me.

I am somewhat surprised Dort has slid this far.

Iggy could be a decent bench guy maybe. He's comfortable and aggressive in hitting the 3 and attacking closeouts and he wasn't bad on D for a (old) freshman, has the right size to guard 3s and 4s without getting killed. Never passes, though. Maybe a TJ Warren type if it works out for him?
Where's the D?

And now Shayok in front of Dort as well. I'm actually relatively high on Shayok and his ability to stick in the league, but this is still a surprise.

Seems that one 6'6" white Canadian guy out of Michigan wasn't enough for Sacramento.

Still shocked that Dort didn't get drafted. I remember a couple years back my friends and I were shocked when Myck Kabongo (rightfully) didn't get drafted after DraftExpress had him going somewhere early-mid second round. This, in my opinion, is a much bigger surprise - I feel for Dort and his family.

Iggy is out of the league in no time. He has no NBA level skill. He'll go get his Lithuanian passport and play there. Dort is shocking. Shittu was expected but I think they're sleeping on some real talent. Happy for shayok- NBA loves shooters

Dort signs a two way with the Thunder.

Don’t be two surprised with Dort. Agents will often push 2nd round players to go undrafted in order to get them to a team of their choosing. Could easily of happened with Dort as his agent warded off teams from drafting him to get him to the Thunder.

Better to go undrafted than in the 45-60 range. Freedom of choice.
Recall Justin Jackson didn’t even get an NBA deal last year after being drafted by the Magic.

Any word on brissett? I thought the Twitter buzz after those camps was that some teams liked him

Disagree about Iggy. I think he has special mental makeup that would help him stick in the league. We'll see.
