I think we still need to give Siakam more time to adjust. He went from averaging 18 FGA/game with a 27 USG% the past 4 seasons and now he's suddenly down to 14 FGA/game and 21 USG% this season – but he's still facing the brunt of defensive attention despite much less of an offensive role overall. His 3FG% and 3FGA are pretty much in line with what he did in the previous 4 seasons as the #1 option, but his inside finishing is way down and he's not getting much of an opportunity to score in the mid-range either; he was converting 72% of his attempts within 3 feet and 45% of his attempts from 3-10 feet since 19/20 while also hitting ~42% of ~5 mid-range attempts, but those numbers are down to 67%, 30% and 43% on ~2 attempts per game respectively. Siakam's play on the offensive end so far reminds me of early 21/22 when he came back from surgery a few weeks into the season and was trying to find his way into the offence. Uncharacteristic misses inside and sloppy turnovers have made him look A LOT worse than he can be even at his most average.
We need to give this core 20-25 games at least to see how the pieces fit before making a massive move like trading Siakam. Ideally, he gets his **** together and he becomes one of the best #2 options in the league and Scottie continues to do his thing while Schroder gives some of his extra touches to our best players. And it is very likely that it plays out like that IMO.
Said this is another thread, but once defences start prioritizing Scottie, Siakam is gonna see one on one coverage again and we all know Siakam one on one is food against most of the league.
