Toronto Raptors
No. 2: Harrison Barnes

With Andrea Bargnani and last year's lottery pick Jonas Valanciunas looking like the team's future front line, Barnes looks like a logical choice. The team has a weakness at the 3 and Brian Colangelo has a weakness for 3s who can shoot the 3. See?

Fantastic analysis. No wonder he gets paid the big bucks.

Dr Mufasa wrote:Ew at that much HBo love at #2. I'm not even that enamoured with Drummond, but still. You don't take a spot up 3s guy at 2nd in one of the best drafts in a few years. This is one of the few chances to get a franchise player for a lot of teams, and that's not HBo

I'm guessing Thomas Robinson works his way to #2/the anti Drummond pick mix once he measures at 6'9+, as he did before the season. Although juniors typically have a hard time in the draft, he otherwise has the athleticism, workout friendly motor and college production to get that high

I agree that Robinson will end up at top 5 -- but he would not go #2 to the Raps.

Seems like that 2nd tier (everyone but Davis) is really evening out. It's looking pretty even between Drummond, Barnes, Lamb, Robinson, MKG, Sullinger and Perry Jones. I love MKG's game, but I wouldn't be disappointed with any of those guys in a Raps uni next year.

By the way, I was just on nbadraft.net and I noticed that Arnett Moultrie is suddenly top 5. Who is this guy?

Guessing NBADraft.net is doing their usual thing of having outlandish mocks early to get attention and hits to their site, then before the draft they'll go with the consensus/accurate one

With that said when I see clips of Moultrie it really looks like he has the size, athleticism, and skill level of an all-star talent (and college production, but when juniors put up good stats it's downplayed). I would take him over the Zellers and T Jones for sure, and it would make complete sense to me if he somehow got above Sullinger and PJIII by draft day, as a happy medium between them with a more NBA friendly body and higher "upside" than Sully and a better motor and rebound numbers than PJII (ftr I think Sullinger will do just fine athletically and size wise in the NBA, but it'd be very much like GMs to let the skill over impressive physical tools big fall to Brook Lopez range and to underrate his upside)

So people think Robinson is worthy of a top 5 pick?

lol

It amazes me year after year how people fall for the same trap. Every year.

Sullinger needs to be above Robinson on every mock draft on the planet. He's a better passer, shooter. and equal rebounder. He's a piece you can run your offense through. Robinson, ahhh, not so such.

Robinson didn't even make our poll, that should tell you something.

And dude, seriously, get off the high horse. Hell, Dr Mufasa would run circles around your scouting abilities.

Steely = Fake Scout

Apparently Calhoun is leaving UCONN indefinetely with a lower back injury. Basically, Drummond has been a pain in the ass.

I believe it's called 'pulling a Krzyzewski'.

Rolls off the tongue.

What is so "outlandish" about nbadraft.net's current mock? Judging by your current and past big boards, I think it's simply a matter of you not having a clue about the prospects.

He actually looked like the 6'4-6'5 player that ESPN and Florida has him billed as to me tonight
which surprised me because I thought he'd look small around 6'2-6'3.

When it comes to Beal and Lamb I wonder if the Raps will consider moving DeRozan to SF or
making him fight against one of those guys to be the starting SG. NBA Teams are very picky
when it comes to size.

TBH, if we take Lamb or Beal and we're gonna move DeRozan, I'd rather see what SF we could get for him instead of playing him out of position at SF

I think we can have Beal plays PG. His court vision and basketball IQ should able to handle the point man role. The only problem is his ball handling, but I think that can be improved and have someone help on that part.

That was the second thing I thought of when I heard Calhoun was taking a leave. 1995 never happened in Durham.

Well I was referring to Arnett at 5

NBADraft.net has a history of throwing hot names really high, then reeling it back. I don't think Arnett at 5 is really a bad ranking even, just that I suspect NBAdraft.net did this for an alternative motive

My scouting acumen is unrivaled. History is pretty much always on my side. Many ride the truth of moment but I'm the breathing depiction of the Moment of the Truth.

Contrast my analysis last to year to Dr. Mufasa. He was wrong on many levels, me not so much. I bent the curve when it came to prediction vs reality. My Big Board from last year was made in March and lasted through draft day. I had Tristan Thompson, Brandon Knight, and Jonas Valancuinas all in the top 10 months before anyone else.

But let's not make this thread about me, please..

If we get #2, I think that we gotta swing for the fence and take PJ3 or Drummond. Also, if we do take Barnes, we're going to HAVE to move DeRozan.

Why would you have to trade Derozan? If anything, Barnes (pure shooter/defender) is exactly what you would need at the 3 in order to keep Derozan. Barnes' games compliments Derozan's perfectly (assuming Derozan is able to bring his game to a respectable level).
