I see him do this in pick up runs to challenge himself almost. He really doesn’t do it all that much in an NBA game
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Does it all of the time, especially against smaller guards. They just blitz him because his lateral movement isn’t that fast.

Yeah, he's an at times enthusiastic, but not smart defender at this point.

The stuff he's doing to precious who in my eyes is a top defender is some special stuff.. fadeaways and step backs all over the place like he's playing around out there. It looks so easy he's gonna be special.

Scottie's such a positive person to be around. You can already tell he's that type of player players around the league are going to want to play with. He's going to be key in recruiting big name free agents. Those Giannis comparisons are really accurate if we factor in personality too. Dude's a killer on the court, but a gentle, child-like soul off it.

Probably the only person in and outide the NBA that thinks Barnes can't be versatile defensively. Cool story.

Some people need to learn to not jump to conclusions based on one play in an open scrimmage run.

Recent Hines run showed Koloko make more baskets than Scottie - Koloko > Scottie baybeee

I've never felt so confident about a Raptors prospect in my life.

He's shown some signs at times, but last year he guarded too tight and got blown by a lot...he was also guilty of overhelping at times and sometimes his help defense wasn't what you would hope.

He had games where he was on point, but a lot where he wasn't. I'm not trying to be negative, just accurate. I'll wait and see how he looks this year, but I'm not thrilled to see him doing some of the same things in the summer.

We did see Scottie get blown by frequently and sometimes his over aggressive/enthusiastic defence was exploited...but that happened significantly less often in the second half of the season. He drastically improved as the year went on to the point that what took place in the clip that sparked this conversation rarely ended up happening.

True, which is one of the reasons I'm not thrilled to see him doing some of the same things again now. It works against bigger, slower players, but he'll get cooked by smaller, quicker players if he doesn't intimidate them and force the pass or get the steal. Maybe it's by design and coming from the coaching staff? Maybe he's just working on it to build his anticipation during the low stakes summer? But when he does that and it doesn't work, it puts pressure on the rest of the team to rotate and help. There were a lot times that Barnes was the weak link in our defensive rotations and overactivity or inactivity led to our defense being compromised. I'm looking for him to be smarter and more measured in his approach this season.

One more thing...maybe he's pushing/testing his teammate to help make them better...I never considered that...If a guy like Malachi can get comfortable with ball pressure from guys like Scottie, it might help him be more effective in regular game situations.

I'm fine with errors of commission/aggression - he'll learn.

You okay bud ? He's one of the most versatile defenders in the league, I 100% think he can guard smaller guards, it's just pressing up so hard on them makes his life so much harder. I don't care how good you are at moving your feet, you're not keeping up with the guards if you're literally chest to chest with them at the half court line.
