Maybe he wasn't familiar with the law about open containers, but I'm positive he knew he wasn't allowed to drink and drive.

You tellin' me you never woke up after a party and drove home on an empty stomach?

What does that have to do with anything?

And yes, they absolutely can arrest a person for a DUI after the fact if the police can make a proper identification. My guess is the video cameras at the McDonalds did a pretty good job of confirming the employee's story.

And sorry, this isn't me taking some sort of moral high ground. It's me taking a position that I have lost family friends to drunk drivers, and it's a completely ******* stupid, STUPID thing to do. "Get over it" and "it was nothing" are not acceptable responses in this situation.

However, because he was lucky and didn't hurt or kill anyone, it's something he can hopefully learn and grow from.
A lot of people don't get that second chance.

i highly doubt the cops had time to review the mcdonalds drive thru security cameras, especially as a i assume theyd need a warrant. but regardless my assumption would be that it will be hard to prove he drove at the limit he was tested at if its true they tested himat a residence, and that it will get dropped or lowered. but that legality doesnt change the morality of his error in judgement. that said he got lucky no one was hurt, we dont know how much he had to drink (a grey in what many consider a black and white situation - but a grey none the less), and hopefully he can learn from this

also a law student who says he cant look at any situation morally, whether its his client or not, sounds like a law student not mentally equipped to succeed in passing the bar

oh nice, another person that doesn't believe in the court system

#innocentuntilprovenguilty
#buckthehaters

You realize there are no hashtags on RealGM, right?

And, as others have said, why on earth would he apologize if he was innocent? Do you routinely apologize publicly for things you're accused of? He admitted that what he did was stupid. Why don't you believe in his words, and why don't you believe that drunk driving is a serious offence?

hashtags are used on twitter

and a poster literally just explained why he would apologize, but I guess you didn't read. No matter what an athlete working for an organization like MLSE is going to apologize right off the bat, not necessarily for commiting the crime, but for just having the negative media attention. If you read his actual apology it does not in any way imply that he's admitting to doing it. Far from it

And nowhere did I say that DUI is not serious... not sure where you read that. Your reading comprehension is really lacking.

Spoken like a person who's clueless on how the justice system and lawyers work. If you think it's a lawyers job to look at things morally you are absolutely ignorant to what goes on in real life. We don't live in some fantasy world, this is reality.
