Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
Draisaitl does deserve criticism. He didn't score in this series. On the ESPN broadcast they mentioned it was only the X time a 100+ point scorer failed to score in a playoff series (I can't remember the exact number but it was a very low number, basically it rarely happens). Dude was invisible except for that beauty assist in Game 6.

Looked like Draisaitl wasn't close to 100%. A healthy Kane would've made a big difference (sports hernia injury for several months now).

McDavid a future leaf anyways, just be patient.

Happy Edmonton lost. I want my Leafs to be the first Canadian team to end the drought.

As the face if the league, he'll get crucified if he asks out, or even leaves as a UFA. Unfortunate spot for him because those in-the-know have said he would rather be anywhere else. I remember the lottery show when the Leafs came oh so close and then he looked like he was going to cry at the end result lol.

Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
This is the best defense the Oilers will have as long as McDavid, Drai and Bouch are primaries and they don't have money for a great goalie. They got lucky it came together especially on the PK. In the future they have to win by having crazy offense like 22 Avs. As good as the Oilers PK was their PP could have been better. On paper how can you have a better powerplay than McDavid and Drai, Bouch bomb, Hyman dirty goals ability and RNH I believe historically ranks up their for highest % of their points on powerplay for forwards.

Otherwise, its just a statistical orgy like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
While I somewhat agree and McDavid came up short when it mattered most, there are different levels to this. McDavid lead his team to game 7 of the Finals while being the leading scorer in the playoffs while Matthews and Marner continually come up short in scoring and can't even make it past the first round.

Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
McDavid is awesome. That's not up for debate. Oilers are poorly constructed and have a trap similar to the Leafs in that they are top heavy with their forwards. And they have some bad contracts in Soupy and Nurse.
It's funny to read some Leaf fans be salty. We're definitely crab theory in Canadian hockey. I was rooting for the Oilers to win. But as a Canuck fan, in the back of my mind a message said to me: "if the Oilers win a Canadian team won't win for another two decades".

Re: OT: Leafs/NHL Thread
I watched the entire series and didn't find the Oilers D to be that good this series, a lot of bad penalties (Bouchard), and coughing up the puck and not playing the man properly on crucial plays, for example on Florida's winning goal in game 7 when Ceci should have approached Reinhart earlier in the zone instead of continuing to back up into the slot/crease... I get you typically let the goalie take the shooter, but that's if it's a 2 on 1, and that wasn't the case.

NHL free agency is more fun than NBA so far... Nashville just went full Padres and got Stamkos, Marchessault, and Skjei

Can anyone TLDR the Leafs off-season? Has the Boston Pizza owner's son done well as GM?

Not good
Domi 4 x $3.75
Woll 3 x $3.55
Tanev 6 x $4.5
Stolarz 2 x $2.5
Oliver Ekman-Larsson 4 x 3.5
Timothy Liljegren 2 x $3
Another first round exit coming.
Though here is my prediction - Marner to Vegas coming soon!!

Stolarz was a good value signing for backup goalie. Still think they need to re-work the complementary wingers up and down the lines.

Tanev signing - B+
OEL signing - C+
Stolarz signing - A
New look defense:
Rielly-Tanev
Benoit-McCabe
Ekman-Larsson-Liljegren
Solid - better than last year for sure.
I thought Lybushkin was solid though.
That 3rd pairing (OEL-Lilly) kind of looks soft right now.
Now let's trade Marner and bring home Kadri.

Feel like we've heard this time and time again.
But I agree, on paper, it does seem to be the best.
