I’m not against trading RJ in the right deal. But to move him for three smaller pieces makes no sense.
You either mover RJ for an equal type of player with more positional balance, an upgrade as one of the piece in a consolidation trade. Or cap space to manoeuvre a bigger deal.
I can just see RJ become like Demarcus 2.0. I don’t mind keeping him either.

Trading RJ and Dick for a good deal would be ideal. We don't need another starter. We need flexibility and picks we can use for a big fish. Otherwise keeping an opening in the starting line up gives an opportunity for one of the young guys to step up. A player like Battle might even be better as a starter for us.
Poeltl / CMB / Mamu
Barnes / Mogbo
Ingram / Battle
Walter / Agbaji / Martin
Quickely / Shead
We have a lot of depth on this team.

Can’t remember if I have crapped on this yet or not, so in the interest of being thorough, hard pass for POR.
RW and Thybulle. Zero interest in giving up that flexibility for expensive empty calories like Barrett.
No problem moving either guy, but only for something POR might want.
LOL. Toronto wouldn’t do this, RW and Thybulle bring nothing to this team with the current state of the roster.

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Works in January after Yak's trade restriction passes.

I'd be down with that. They can have Gradey too if they want.

What are your expectations this coming season and long-term?

If RJ is too hard to trade, then I would look at flipping Ochai for a cheaper piece and/or some sort of pick to free up money.

My expectation is that he plays primarily on the bench because of the depth and has a good year. Off-season he is resigned at a reasonable contract. If there is a big trade I could see him starting. He is a natural 5th starter.

He is a useful piece who could be our fifth starter depending on how the off-season shakes out otherwise is a pretty good bench piece.
There was talk of extending him for three year, I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Let's get our Mark Gasol level old vet that has maybe a couple of good years left but would start...
Toronto trades: IQ, RJ and Ochai Agbaji
LA Lakers trade: Lebron James, Gabe Vincent (expiring) and Jordan Goodwin (waive)
PG Shead - JaKobe - Vincent
SG Ingram - Jakobe - Lawson - Temple
SF Lebron - Dick - Mobgo - Battle
PF Scottie - CMB - Mogbo
C Poeltl - Mamu - Chomche

Raps should sign Jeff Dowtin. I trust him more to be backup PG than anyone else on the roster. He averaged 12/2/2.5 on 54.5 FG%, 49% from 3 on 2.6 attempts, 0.9 steals, 0.5 blocks in just 20:40 minutes over 17 games post-all star break.

Totally agree. I wouldn’t mind a deal where you swap him for a better shooting 2 guard of equal standing like Devin Vassel or Malik Monk. If not a future pick and a contract
Since Memphis got all the picks for Bane including a high pick in 2026 they might do this
Kentavious Caldwell Pope
2026 Memphis 1st
For
RJ Barrett
This gives the Raptors a good fit at the 2 as a stand still shooting defender and gives them another pick to work with either to add more youth or to flip for a good player at the deadline
2016 GMAT Blazers
Howard/Nene/
Griffin/M.Leonard/T.Jones
Porter/Marc.Morris/J.Johnson
McCollum/Stauskas/Thompson/Seldon
Lillard/Bayless/DeColo

Would you trade RJ and Agbaji for KCP, Brandon Clarke and 2026 1st pick (Memphis)?

Re: 2024-25 Season: Draft, Trades, and FA Ideas Thread V1.0
SAC gets: RJ, IQ, Ochai, 2026 lottery protected 1st
TOR gets: Lavine, Keegan Murray
Lavine declines his player option next season and extends at 35M for 3 more seasons. He does this to get out of the messy fit with Demar and Monk and an opportunity to rehabilitate his image/legacy. This leaves enough room to resign Murray as an RFA.
For the Kings, Scott Perry drafted RJ and IQ who are younger and have more tradeable contracts than Lavine. They are desperate for a true PG and don’t trust Schroeder or Carter. They want to build a competitive team around Sabonis in his prime at PF. They will be hunting with Demar or Monk for a C to pair with Sabonis. Ochai is a poor man’s version of Murray and the same age. I would be ok if they wanted Gradey Dick instead of Ochai.
Lavine and BI are among the top of the league at creating for themselves in those crucial 4th quarter minutes. They are protection against each other’s injury histories. Their so-so defense can be hidden with Jak, Scotty, Murray and CMB up front and the new bench mob. The ball might stick to Lavine a bit too much but maybe in the right environment he will buy into the system.
JP/Mamu/Chomche
SB/CMB/Mogbo
Murray/GD/Battle
BI/Walter
Lavine/Shead/Martin
I see Zach as the primary ball handler/distributor with Scottie as the secondary one on offense. On defense, Murray is the primary on ball defender with Scottie as the secondary one. BI is our primary ISO release valve while Zach is our secondary one.
Lavine is also a trade chip at the deadline that can be traded for most other star players (ie Giannis) without adding further salary to match with his 47M (declining with the extension) contract.

I like the way our team is setup as is and I think they deserve until new years to see if the starting 5 can fit.
In the event it doesn’t work out I would love to trade RJ for a veteran backup C and PG. I feel like such a trade would balance the team out perfectly.
Jak/Vet C/Mamu/ Chomche*
Barnes/CMB/Mogbo
BI/Dick/Battle
Agbaji/Walter/Lawson/Martin*
IQ/Shead/Vet PG/Hepburn*
At that point Temple can be cut to make room for the trade and hopefully he calls it quits and joints the coaching staff.

I know they've been trying to dump RJ Barrett and they too know that his stock can only go down with less PT and less shots with Ingram playing.

It’s a long season and I’d imagine RJ, Barnes and IQ will all take turns being the second option based on matchups and injuries.
